Golden Bagel Cafe

Crema's Take

This independent Napa cafe is beloved for doing bagels *right*—reviewers rave about the properly fermented dough with those telltale air bubbles that most bagel shops skip entirely. The coffee quality shines too (especially the lavender lattes), and everything tastes genuinely homemade, though service can be uneven depending on staffing. It's a solid breakfast destination if you catch them on a good day and crave a bagel made with real care.

See the little bubbles in the dough? That means the dough was given time to ferment a little, which is EXACTLY what you want in a good bagel. 98% of bagel places do NOT do this. Solid place.

Golden Bagel is a great spot for breakfast. The bagels are fresh, the breakfast sandwiches are excellent, and the bagel selection is huge. Everything tastes homemade and you can tell they care about quality. Fast service, great food, and a solid go to place when you want a good bagel in the morning. Highly recommend.

Place is run by sloppy teenagers who don’t take the time, or far too much time-to make a lousy sandwich. Clearly jarred pesto, no spread. Thrown together sloppy and sideways in the container. Avoid and spend money elsewhere.

What I liked: Food and latte were good for the price. I didn’t enjoy the service though. Only one person at the register in a busy Saturday morning. That person also juggles taking food orders so the line continues to build. There are two ordering areas and they should only have one with two registers for when things get busy. My food took 18 minutes to make. By the time it was ready the coffee order I didn’t hear I was called for got cold. Even if I did hear it, nobody wants to drink a cold latte with their food they had to wait for. The person making drinks wasn’t nearly as busy and should have hopped in to take people’s orders at the register to move things along faster. Very uncoordinated. I may return but definitely not on a Saturday morning.

Food 1-5 stars. Overall service experience: 3 Cleanliness: 2 Noise level: 3 Ambience Decor and Atmosphere: 3.5 Food. Coffee quality: 5 Cappuccino Lavender latte Bottle Rock sandwich Flavor: 4 Presentation: 3 Value for money: ($13.50) 4 Ariana comments on the meal: If you're coming here really hungry, this is the way to go. It's so huge that this typically handheld sandwich may require a utensil to avoid a mess. Nonetheless, a delicious, gluttonous experience as any visit to Bottlerock would be. Smoked salmon on plain bagel- Flavor: 4.5 Presentation: 1 Value for money: ($12) 4.5 this was a bit of a deal Alexander's comments on the meal: The extra half a point is for the bagel itself. It has to be one of the most texturally pleasant pieces of bread I've been able to eat. It has a slight crunch due to the crust and the insides have a great chew and the flavor tells you that it was baked this morning. As for the locks and bagel itself, I was surprised to see lettuce on the loxen bagel, but it actually served as a great counterbalance to the savoriness of the bagel cream cheese and salmon. The tomato and cucumber also served a counterbalance and overall was a extremely pleasant and delicious experience.
