Oakberry Acai

Crema's Take

Oakberry Acai brings a refreshing acai bowl destination to Santa Barbara's bustling State Street, where the açaí itself is the star when prepared well—thick, vibrant, and topped with fresh fruit that makes it worth the stop. While consistency can be hit-or-miss (some bowls arrive watery, others beautifully crafted), the genuinely friendly staff and convenient online ordering make it an easy grab for anyone craving that perfect, refreshing bowl between activities. It's the kind of casual spot where the owner's warmth shines through, even if the kitchen doesn't always nail execution on the first try.

First time trying this place and I was really disappointed. I had ordered an açaí bowl and had requested to add protein powder to the bowl. When I received it, the protein hadn’t been mixed in at all, rather just layered into the bowl, with my 3 banana slices. When I asked about it, I was told they don’t usually add protein to bowls, followed by a very hollow stare, which makes no sense since it was an option on the menu. Instead of fixing it, I was basically told that’s just how it is. For the high price of this bowl (that’s actually a cup.. coming in at $16), I expected better service and overall a way better açaí bowl. Definitely not a great experience and wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Reply 12/12: Thank you for responding. I understand that you call them “bowls,” but there actually aren’t any real bowls offered on the menu.. everything is served in cups. That’s fine, but it should be clearly communicated so expectations match what’s advertised. Regarding the protein, the menu lists it as an add-on with no indication that it wouldn’t be mixed in. Even if you consider protein mixing to fall under a “smoothie,” it’s not logical to simply dump a layer of dry protein into a cup and call it good. No reasonable customer would expect that. I also want to point out that the photos on your menu are misleading. My “bowl” had only three slices of banana, which is nothing like what your pictures show. If toppings are meant to be layered, they should actually be included in a reasonable amount. The issue wasn’t just the preparation — it was the lack of communication and the dismissive response when I asked about it. I’m leaving this feedback so future customers understand what they’re getting, and so the menu or process can be clarified moving forward.

We’ve been on an Acai bowl bender, recently, so we find new ones when we’re on the road. Stopped in at Oakberry and the Acai bowl was delicious. Only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was it was a little light on the fruit toppings and the dry whey powder layer was a little strange. The Acai, granola and cacao nibs were amazing! The fruit was fresh and great, just needed more. Overall, a great spot just off of State St.

My açaí bowl was mediocre. The açaí was very watery, it was practically a smoothie. However the staff was very friendly!
