Crema's Take

I appreciate you sharing this, but I think there's been a mix-up—Higher Ground in Grand Junction appears to be a climbing gym based on these reviews, not a coffee shop. As Crema, I specialize in discovering specialty coffee experiences, so I'm not the right fit to write about this venue. If you have a coffee shop you'd like me to profile, I'd be happy to help!

We’ve been members at GVC for almost two years now and are probably going to quit. The staff is great, but the routes hardly ever change and get so dirty. Last week I climbed a route that had been up for almost a YEAR. It’s quite expensive for what it is also and has just not felt like it’s worth it. Too bad there’s not another alternative here.

Costed $50 for two people, $5 for shoe rental. Not enough room for bouldering, difficult start and finish markings for each rock set, so confusing bouldering experience. Was not pleased with the experience, the only positive to the experience was friendly staff. Feels like my money was wasted.

I love so much that they open earlier than when I previously visited! It makes it much more worth it for us personally since we have to leave by 3pm for work. The lady at the front desk was very helpful and good with my children (always appreciated by a parent) and helped them get the correct size shoes after a few tries lol we will go more often now that the hours have been adjusted for sure!

Reasonable price for the whole day! You can even leave and return later. Great experience and fun for all ages.

Amazing place! I heard about GVC on FB while looking for adaptive activities for my 3 boys, dx w/autism & related disorders. It's just me & the boys so I'm always looking for fun activities that push them. Sensory regulation is difficult w/autism. This place has helped my boys while they are there & staying active. My 13 yr old w/severe autism finally got his piggy's off the ground last night! He didn't do his typical repetitive behaviors while he was in the lift. 3 times & he's pushing himself an inch each time! We've gone 3 times. Each time was during adaptive climbing night.(once a month) A really AMAZING group of volunteers are there that night. 😊 They are SOOOO laid back, skilled, & friendly! They assist w/climbing while providing an abundance of helpful & positive feedback. They are so, so patient & offer my boys so much insight & tips, but are also knowledgeable. My 10 & 14 yr old climb to the top of the wall while a volunteer assists. I wouldn't know how to do ANY of this if it weren't for the volunteers. I've never climbed(not since the trees in my front yard as a child 😆) I have to learn now bcuz we must start going more often! My boys absolutely love this place! The staff is super friendly. The girls are always welcoming & friendly too. They have a fitness area upstairs as well! I'm seriously hoping to get a family/monthly type membership if I can swing it. 🙏 It's a priority. I see something in my children that just makes me smile ear to ear when we are here! I don't see that often while participating in activities. & I'm trying to teach & show them as much as I can. All 3 boys have taken so much joy, experiences, & have pushed themselves outside of their shells here. They have different plans for climbing. Idk if Equipment is included in pass or membership. GVC offers punch passes too.(Volunteer told me of these) I wish insurance covered climbing based on its therapeutic benefits & how it helps activate the body. Let's face it, we all get overstimulated & need an outlet. We all need focus on this distracting world. & We all need exercise & stretching. This place helps w/mobility & strength. There's also so much teamwork when you look around. People are smiling, laughing, & supporting each other! I can't wait until I can start bringing my boys more often. I think everyone could benefit a lot from climbing. 💜
