Crema's Take
“Simply Gourmet shines as a welcoming gathering spot in Lake Placid with a genuinely pleasant atmosphere that keeps locals coming back for unhurried conversations over coffee and pastries. While their bread-forward sandwiches and custom desserts show ambition, reviewers note the execution can be inconsistent—so visit with flexible expectations and focus on soaking in the cozy, sit-and-linger vibe rather than counting on culinary perfection.”

Ive eaten here occasionally over the years. Each time hoping it's gotten better. Nope. I went there recently with a friend and ordered their equivalent of a reuben. I felt like I was eating a doughball. Hardly any meat on it. For the ridiculous amount of $ they charge for a sandwich you'd think you'd at least get meat in every bite. Nope. Def not even worth $5. Service 1star: The service was pretty sad, as well. Unfriendly, curt and just looked at you like they'd rather have their teeth drilled than Crack a smile or say anything nice. Not even a thank you when they checked you ar the register. Smh. I won't be going back. Lisa Gs, the Cottage, the LP Pub n Brew, hell, even China city are better choices.
Went in for breakfast because when you visit the Lake Placid breakfast must not be a priority. No places open before 11am. Some closed the first part of the week. So we ended up here. The 3 of us ordered eggs over with toast. Not a huge order, right??? All of our eggs were fried hard. You place your order, go pick it up and then have to clean up your table. Not busy should have been the first clue. They don't have real silverware. All cheap plastic. Can't imagine how they serve dinner and drinks in the other side, all empty and dark. Would not recommend and it was over $40 for 3 coffee, 6 eggs over super hard and 3 pieces of toast, when did they start giving only one slice? No potatoes, no meat either.
This should not even be called a sandwich. I was charged $14 + tax for avocado that is barely there (the other side of our sandwich had no avocado somehow and the picture below of the open sandwich shows a little sliver of some but that was it...), half a slice of bacon, and a singular piece of lettuce? I understand costs have gone up, but if you're going to increase the price for a sandwich and still make it like shit, you're going to lose a lot of business. I loved simply gourmet back when they were actually good (5 years ago) but every time I've stopped back in this year, it has been a massive disappointment. Every single time now my sandwich comes to me like this, as well as my boyfriends.
Very good atmosphere here, and a lot of great sandwiches to choose from. Their bread was supposed to be the best part, so I ordered with the caramelized onion bread. It really wasn't all that amazing, but it did taste very fresh. If ya like a Balsamic vinaigrette then you'd like it. As for the rest of the sandwich, well... first things first: there's a big sign that says that you can make your own sandwich, add ingredients to any sandwich, or change anything in any way. I saw a good looking sandwich, and all I wanted to do was toss a little lettuce in there to bring out the undertones of the vinegar already in the sandwich. I asked if they have lettuce. The lady got real confused, asked three people if it were possible, and I never saw her again. Two minutes later a new person came out and finished the order. :( I never got lettuce.
Very pleased with Simply Gourmet. They made our cake and desserts for our wedding. (We chose them because we love their sandwiches as well!) The menu was very customizable. We live out of state and it was extremely easy to plan with the help of their staff. Everyone raved about how good the desserts were. I highly recommend to consider for your wedding or event!
