Kai Cafe

The Ritz-Carlton, Lahaina, HI

★★★★4.3(39 Google reviews)

Crema's Take

This oceanfront café in Lahaina wins hearts with genuinely warm staff who make each visit feel like a personal welcome, paired with solid morning fare like fresh egg sandwiches and generously sized açaí bowls. The outdoor seating and phenomenal location make it an ideal spot to linger over a well-made latte and pastries while soaking in the view, though the 3 p.m. closing time means you'll want to catch it early to make the most of that beautiful setting.

The morning egger sandwich was surprisingly fresh and tasty. Just deducted one star because I suspect they use powdered eggs.

Location is obviously phenomenal. Staff make it special. Like each one, it’s silly how nice they are. Latte was always tasty. Pastries yummy. Started my mornings here while staying at the hotel and it was always excellent.

Closing at 3 p.m. feels like a missed opportunity. It really limits the chance to enjoy an evening coffee in such a beautiful setting. If it stayed open later, it could easily become a go-to spot for ice cream on a hot summer day or for pastries and desserts in the evening. Unfortunately, the early closure cuts off those options right when I’d be most interested in relaxing with something sweet or a cup of coffee.

I enjoyed visiting here for a morning smoothie and coffee. Quite a bit of selection. The staff were very hospitable and seemed like great people, genuinely happy to serve you. They were kind enough to modify my smoothies, but had to give my customizations prior to 1pm the day before. Required a bit of forethought, but wasn't an issue once you got accustomed to it. The gelato was yummy as was the avocado toast. And of course, you can't get a much better view than off the balcony. (Take me back!) I took a star off because it was over-priced and smaller portioned, due to being in the Ritz-Carlton.

The view is great! The coffee is decent and they have alternative milk options. The açaí bowl was huge and could easily been shared. The egg sandwich my husband had was wonderful.
