CoRo Coffee Roastery

2322 Fifth St, Richmond, CA

Crema's Take

This Richmond roastery earns serious devotion for its thoughtfully crafted espresso drinks and inviting aesthetic, from their uniquely designed coffee cups to table service that lets you settle in without hovering at the counter. The space draws a committed crowd of remote workers and coffee enthusiasts, though it does get cozy and the pace can be leisurely—perfect if you're there to linger over a pour over or cortado, less ideal if you're rushing. Fair warning: their specialty drinks like the golden milk matcha seem to need some consistency work, so stick with what they do best: their espresso-forward drinks where the care in their beans really shines.

update 2/22/26: i came in to order their golden milk matcha. it was supposed to have all these spices, but when i tasted it, i sensed zero spices, 10% matcha, and 90% milk. super disappointing. older review: every time i’ve come here, the baristas have all been so friendly. the drinks are good too. this time i got their seasonal blueberry matcha. it was probably the best i’ve ever tried. had to stop myself from drinking it in one minute. i feel like the inside seating isn’t very inviting tho, for some reason.

Coffee is amazing. Baristas were super friendly and patient. The space is a little small and definitely crowded with a lot of remote workers. If it was a little bigger I would give the place a 5. However love that they do have a parking lot!

Beautiful coffee shop, you can really tell who ever runs it put a lot of effort into making things nice. Even their coffee cups are super cute and unique. Only thing was I was hoping they would have toast available as shown in one of the photos here, but from what I could tell they just had pastries. But the coffee tasted amazing and I was very impressed with the latte art!

Not what I was expected by reviews. First, it is very slow. You will wait a long time to get your coffee or latte. This place is pricey. Pastries were good. Coffee was OK, capuchino was bitter taste. Latte was OK.

Updated 3/13/25 - Another stellar cappuccino and cortado with more fine beans to take home. The service is excellent and they bring the beverages and food to your table so no need to stand waiting. Morning sun basks tables outside for a superb waking experience. Go. Now. Updated 4/14/24 - CoRo still rules the roost (roast??)! Interestingly when recently visiting Oahu coffee houses we ran into a CoRo super fan. Consistency never wavers here. Best latte and cappuccino in the Bay Area hands down! Baristas are virtuosos in the art of preparing the grounds for espresso machine like nothing I’ve observed before. Same with steaming the milk and decorating the pour which is elevated to an art form. Cream is rich, brown with a crystallization unrivaled by other cafes. The cups used for on site service are colorful ceramics crafted in Sweden that add to experience. Person standing next to me in line traveled 30 minutes for his fix and beans to go, while my wife and I drive 35 mins for our cups. Note - we drive Bolt EUV powered by solar panels on the roof of our home. Decor is industrial roastery-chic (I’m coining the term here folks) and exceedingly clean. Great place to study or read a book inside or at tables on street with low/no traffic. Super clean bathrooms. Only Ten Belles in Paris - see my review - is on par with CoRo. And CoRo has a broader selection of beans to go. You may wait a few minutes in line, yes, but art can never be rushed.
