FRGMNT Coffee - St. Anthony Main
43 SE Main St, Minneapolis, MN
Crema's Take
“Tucked into St. Anthony Main's grand historic lobby, FRGMNT impresses with its architectural beauty—think soaring ceilings, a fireplace, and jazz ambiance that feels more upscale hotel than typical café. The espresso drinks and pour overs are competently crafted, though the limited menu and occasional inconsistencies (like underwhelming flavored lattes) suggest they prioritize atmosphere over ambitious beverage innovation. It's an excellent spot to linger with your laptop or meet a friend in a genuinely stunning space, just don't expect a full café experience.”

Great pastries and a cool atmosphere, but not ideal if you’re expecting a full café menu. The iced maple latte was disappointing, it tasted like plain coffee and milk, with barely any maple flavor even after stirring, and no whipped cream. If you like sweeter coffee drinks, this probably isn’t your spot. The apple fritter was super soft, not waxy, and not overly sweet, definitely a highlight. There are no lunch items or frozen coffee drinks, and the restaurant inside the building is permanently closed, so you’d have to walk a few blocks for actual food. Parking is paid street meter (via app), and while it was very busy, I was able to find a spot down the block. Service was good. The staff was friendly and helpful when I asked about nearby restaurants. The space itself has a cool vibe: fireplace (though packed), window seating, a game area with chess, mahjong, and pool, and lots of people working on laptops. Crowd felt late 20s to 50s, white collar energy. Bonus points for the all gender bathroom and the cool main clock. For being so out of the way, it’s impressive how busy they are.
I came here on a Saturday afternoon for a tea and to check the place out. I didn't find the customer service to be much, the tea cost me $5.25 (which seemed outrageous), I wanted an afternoon snack and all they had was morning pastries, the seating was quite mismatched and uncomfortable for me, the music was too loud and kind of 'metal'. The biggest downer was they serve everything in to-go cups ~ WHY??!! I miss the days when I could have beverages and food served to me on regular dishes; disposable is so wasteful and totally lacks a vibe. Overall I wouldn't rush back. It's an ok atmosphere for working, meeting friends, etc. but the place lacks personality and I felt what I got was overpriced. You can plop a coffee shop down in this dated space ~ but it is still dated, and having weird mis-matched furniture doesn't add to anything.
Wow! This place is absolutely beautiful! Probably one of the prettiest cafes (areas) I've visited. Jeff took my order and he was an absolute delight!! Such a kind and genuine person, great face to see when starting up your morning. So so kind. I ordered the Cinnamon Roll Cold Brew, and I am definitely not impressed to say the least. I was told that there was a "lot of cold foam" on top,, but it seemed to be maybe the top 1/2 inch at most? (You can see this in the photos) And it was also chunky & had unnoticeable flavor. Just tasted like a cold brew with some fun spunky chunks for me to chew on. The drink was $7.80 for a 16 ounce. My friend ordered a maple latte with oat milk. About $7.50 for a 10 ounce (fairly small). They said their drink was pretty good! This cafe is pretty mediocre and nothing special if I'm being completely honest. Some of the staff and the environment are so redeeming and lovely. I'd only recommend coming to visit if you need a cozy environment to work in. Parking was pretty easy, but that's because I came 30 minutes after open. Theres maybe 12 parking spots out front, but they're limited and paid--$2 an hour. It will be likely very difficult to find parking. Overall a nice cafe to visit once, but I probably won't be back unfortunately. Would only visit for Jeff because he's so kind!
This coffee shop is GORGEOUS (it’s located in a large lobby area of a multi-floored office building. Reminds me of a hotel) they have light jazz playing and tons of comfy chairs, tables, and a fireplace. Seems like a nice place for an early morning/evening board game or light conversation. Could even get some work done here although I imagine it fills up after 9am (came at 7am). I tried their maple latte with oat milk and it was pretty good! They had a somewhat limited menu however, so maybe not for everyone. They had honey, maple, vanilla, and chocolate as flavors I believe. My friend and I were both asked if our drinks were to be ‘for here’ and we confirmed ‘for here,’ but then we both received to-go cups… maybe that’s all they had? But why inquire about for here or to go? We’d prefer to save items from the landfill if possible. Parking is very difficult and the payment starts at 6:00am. So you absolutely will be paying to park unless you’re walking here… The price of the drink plus having to pay for parking make this experience a bit too pricey for me… The barista Jeff was very kind. I hope Jeff has a lovely day!! Thanks Frgmnt!
First time visiting. The location is beautiful; an old, spacious building with a cozy atmosphere. However, their coffee menu feels limited. I came specifically for a pumpkin spice latte, but they didn’t have it. I ended up getting a chai tea latte, which was okay but nothing special. I tried the morning bun & enjoyed it, but the croissant was very standard. We also ordered an iced coffee (can’t recall the name) & it was just average. Overall, the taste of the coffee doesn’t quite match the price. The shop was packed & we couldn’t find a place to sit. Parking was also difficult, especially on the weekend.
