Common Ground Food Co-op
300 S Broadway Ave #166, Urbana, IL
Crema's Take
“This beloved community co-op in Urbana brews a welcoming atmosphere where you can settle in with a traditional coffee, work on your laptop, or linger over conversations—all while surrounded by a thoughtfully curated selection of specialty products and local goods. The staff genuinely care about their space and customers, creating that rare calm, clean sanctuary that smells like possibility, though fair warning that the commitment to quality does come with higher price tags. It's the kind of place that wins people over so completely they'll drive out of their way on future road trips just to return.”

I love shopping there it is expensive but the staff are very nice and the food and other products are quite nice,
This is the second time we've been here, and it won't be the last. We don't live in Urbana, and stumbled across Common Ground by accident on a past road trip. The great selection, well kept store, and friendly helpful employees made us make sure to stop here again when we came back to Urbana.
This is about the worst co-op I’ve been in in the entire United States. Wood started off as something that was pretty cool and well stocked has turned into a dirty building that often carries produce and other items that are out of date. Overall, the staff is lackluster and uninterested in being helpful. I have gone to this co-op since they opened at the new Lincoln Square mall and I’ve watched the steady decline in the store. It’s incredibly saddening that a town like champagne. Urbana can’t support a healthy robust food, co-op, the quality and quantity of local foods as well as other quality organic foods has steadily and sharply declined and decreased over the last two years with new management. It’s incredibly disappointing what has happened to the store
Review written 02/07/2025. (I am one of the owners of this co-op along with likely thousands of others). Very unique and interesting place. Removing one star because the prices are unaffordable for most people. But it’s a very welcoming environment with great food products. They also have cooking classes and other cool events.
This is my first time visiting this store and I'm highly impressed. Store is clean, and it has a very calm feeling inside the store and smells amazing. Lots of items to buy, stuff I have never heard of before and stuff I have seen online but never in the store till now. Lots of room for parking. Definitely will be coming back soon.
