Cali Banh Mi - Convoy St
4425 Convoy St, San Diego, CA
Crema's Take
“Tucked into Convoy St's vibrant food scene, this spot crafts banh mi sandwiches with genuinely excellent bread—soft yet satisfyingly crispy—and generous, flavorful fillings that locals consistently praise, though prices have climbed higher than typical for the neighborhood. Beyond the traditional banh mi, they've carved out a niche with creative specialty drinks like their silky avocado blend and a rotating menu of inventive bowls, making it worth a stop whether you're grabbing a quick lunch or exploring something a bit different.”

One of the better bahn mi sandwiches I've had in San Diego. Bread had a good softness to it while giving a nice crunch and the sandwich was overall really flavorful. Avocado blended drink is a delicious addition as well.
Wow either inflation has hit this place hard or the new owners are greedy. I was shocked when my banh mi came out to be over $11. That is one of the highest prices in San Diego, if you want an authentic banh mi under $10 try A Chau or Ba Le
I ordered a Cali bowl with grilled chicken, mixed greens, and Saigon sauce and a lemongrass ribeye bahn mi. My friend and I loved the food! My friend said his bahn mi was a solid 8.5/10. The chicken in my bowl was juicy and tender, and the Saigon sauce was light and flavorful. We really enjoyed the food overall. The restaurant itself is simple, but they have a range of items to order beyond bahn mi and bowls, including freshly baked French bread and desserts. The prices aren’t crazy either, especially since they give you really large portions of everything.
Got my baseline banh mi order (pork loaf w/ pate). Bread is aight, but the fillings were packed! Very tasty and decent price! Well worth the trip! Don't be shy and give these Banh Mi's a try!
My husband ordered four different banh mi. The grilled chicken , the lemon grass , surf & turf, & the Cod. Personally the bread itself was great , but the overall banh mi’s were okay. The lemon grass steak meat was okay and peppered nicely but I could taste lemon grass at all. My sister didn’t like the grilled chicken she said it lacked flavor for her. The surf and turf was normal, and my husband said the Cod seemed more like fish filets from the freezer section in the grocery market. The surround ingredients that are typically found in a banh mi (daikon, jalapeños, carrots,& cilantro) were nice and fresh though. Nothing to really write home about. And we got lemon grass beef spring rolls the dipping sauce is good, & the Roll itself is okay. Parking is free. Small plaza . Customer service was great.
