Crema's Take

This neighborhood gem in Laguna Beach pulls off the rare feat of feeling genuinely cozy despite its upscale coastal location, with a warm interior where regulars and visitors alike settle in for made-from-scratch breads and pastries alongside expertly pulled espresso drinks. While the baked goods are the real star—locals rave about everything from European bagels to flourless chocolate cake—the coffee holds its own with rich, wonderful espresso that keeps people coming back for their morning cappuccino or quick Americano. It's the kind of place that justifies its Newport Beach pricing through authenticity: organic coffee, house-made everything, and a genuine hospitality that transforms a simple breakfast into something memorable.

Ideally, with such a wealthy clientele living in the area, the service should be impeccable. But unfortunately, the baked goods are just like regular store like food. Coffee's not bad.

Today I visited Java Bakery Café in Newport Beach, and I had a fantastic experience. I ordered a cappuccino and a blueberry muffin, both of which were absolutely delicious. The coffee was rich and well-prepared, while the muffin was freshly baked, fluffy, and packed with flavor. The café has a cozy, casual atmosphere, perfect for working or simply enjoying some time off. The staff was very friendly and professional, which made my visit even more enjoyable. There's also easy parking access, which is a big advantage in Newport Beach, and they have clean restrooms, making it super convenient for customers. I highly recommend Java Bakery Café, whether you’re looking for great coffee, healthy breakfast options, or just a peaceful spot to relax on their outdoor patio.

It’s Newport beach, so naturally, it’s a little on the pricey side, but not unreasonable. I went straight fatty today and got a medium Americano, a European bagel, and a flourless chocolate cake, which all totaled up to a little over $22 before I tipped. The bagel is huge, so I only had half of that. I did somehow managed to put away every single crumb from that cake, though.😂 I was a little surprised at how many people were there on a Wednesday morning, but the service was fast. They have a nice outdoor patio dining area, as well as an interesting inside area. We are camping over at Newport Dunes, so this place is just a quick trip from there, but a nice change. Not gonna lie, though. I feel a little out of place each time I go there. Maybe they just prefer their OC types to my IE type. (Shrug)

I enjoy supporting local businesses and came here with a friend who lives nearby. This is a cute little cafe that serves Organic coffee along with pastries, bagels and other items. Coffee was wonderful. My friend had the California Breakfast Bagel and I had the Breakfast Burrito. On the day we came the Cafe was decorated for Christmas. We sat at a corner booth enjoying the view. Watched the locals coming and going. They have covered patio seating if you want to sit outside.

Just enjoyed a great little breakfast. Scrambled eggs cheese and toast for $5.99. Apparently they make all their own breads and bakery items. Warm and cozy inside. A neighborhood gem. We also really enjoy their grab and go salads and sandwiches. Fresh high quality and quick. We tried the turkey avocado on fresh sourdough yesterday.
