Crema's Take
“Bookworks seamlessly blends a beloved independent bookstore with a craft coffee haven, making it the perfect refuge for readers and coffee enthusiasts alike to settle in for hours. Their specialty drinks shine—think strawberry matcha lattes with vibrant puree and creative honey lavender creations—while the cozy, laptop-friendly space encourages the kind of slow, meandering visits that make a café feel like a second home. Pair your expertly crafted espresso drink with a flaky almond croissant or savory breakfast sandwich, then browse the thoughtfully curated bookstore shelves before you leave.”

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ BookWorks is an absolute gem in Pacific Grove! If you’re a fan of high-quality brews and a cozy atmosphere, this is your spot. I had the almond croissant, which was incredibly flaky and delicious, paired with a chai latte that was easily one of the best I’ve had—perfectly balanced and fantastic flavor. What really makes this place special for me is their connection to Santa Cruz Coffee and Aptos Coffee. Having previously worked at Aptos Coffee myself, stepping into BookWorks felt almost like coming home. You can really tell they value the same high standards and community vibes. Whether you’re here for the books or the beans, don’t miss this place!
The cafe is really cute and cozy. The staff there are also nice. However, my drink was disappointing. I ordered a honey lavender oat latte, which was $8. It tasted watered down (not by the milk) and too sweet. I really wanted to like this place because I’m a sucker for cafes in bookshops, but this latte ranks at the bottom of my list. I was also planning on buying a pastry here, but the croissant they had was flat and sad—it looked worse than Costco croissants. This place was busy when I went on a weekend, so it took about 20 mins from standing in line to getting my drink.
Great place to work, can be hard to find a table with an outlet next to it. If you find one, hang on to it! Their flapjacks are tasty! Cookies are fine. But the breakfast egg muffin with chorizo was so good!
Cute little coffee shop and independent bookstore. Highly recommended if you're in the area! My friend ordered the Strawberry Matcha Latte- it has amazing strawberry puree which makes the drink so tasty! And I ordered a Butter Pecan latte and it was so sweet and tasty (loved it!). The bookstore was so intimate and cute. Loved getting to support local places. I purchased 2 paperback books.
Very cute neighborhood Café and attached bookstore. Service was great coffee was amazing. I had a dirty London fog with oat milk. I bought a great book at the bookstore about local tide pools and got to sit and relax and drink my coffee and read for a bit I always like to support independent bookstores while I’m traveling and this was a great small book. I can easily fit in my luggage to take home with me. Highly recommend this place. They also had a number of pastries available, though I did not sample any of them but they all look delicious.
