Chelsea Cafe
1007 Slater Rd, Durham, NC
Crema's Take
“Chelsea Cafe is a bright, welcoming spot in Durham that strikes an impressive balance between quick grab-and-go convenience and lingering slow coffee culture, with a notably inclusive menu that genuinely caters to dairy-free, vegan, and meat-eating diners alike. The self-serve cold brew, fresh breakfast wraps, and standout Belgian waffles keep regulars coming back weekly, while ample parking and seating make it equally comfortable for solo laptop work or colleague meetups. It's the kind of place where affordability meets quality and consideration—staff clearly care about both their food and their community.”

TLDR: Sunny, affordable and refreshing cafe with ample parking and seating, as well as a delicious food! Perfect for people with dairy allergies and vegans as well as meat lovers. Ideal location for working remote or studying in the morning away from the crowds. Full review below: What a hidden gem! When I hear rumor of a breakfast and lunch spot that offered dairy-free substitutes but also was reasonably priced and delicious, I was skeptical. I drove in to the unassuming corporate office building and walked up to the door and was met with a beautiful sunlit morning paradise. The cafe faces east so the morning sun pours in through the large windows, past dozens of vibrant hanging plants. There are big tables with little bouquets of fresh wildflowers, as well as a QR code so you can order on your mobile phone from the table—perfect for a work or study break! When I walked up to the counter, one of the kitchen staff greeted me and assured me that they did dairy-free and vegan options, listing off all the different vegan cheeses they used. I ordered their signature Chelsea Breakfast Burrito for myself and my husband for takeout and WOW. We gobbled them down before I remembered to take a photo! With all of the allergy conscious options and the care for the little details (seriously love the little wild flowers on the tables,) we will absolutely be returning!
The food is delicious. The establishment is clean and a great place to sit with colleagues. I really enjoy coming here. All I would say and recommend or encourage more wall plugs in for laptops. This place is surrounded by workplaces. I only found 2 wall plugs. One by the wall and the other by the order stand. I think it would be a great addition to this great café.
I come here about once a week and have not been disappointed. The food quality varies but nothing that is concerning (breakfast wrap sometimes toasted more, sometimes less, home fries cooked with more or less oil, etc). I love the buffalo chicken and Philly steak breakfast wraps. You either order from a tablet inside or from your phone, and seat yourself. You can be in and out pretty quick if you’re dining in, which is great if you need to have a quick lunch, or you can take the food to go. Their coffee is also pretty good for the price. Inside seating can fill up pretty quick between 12-12:30 but I have never not found a table. This cafe is truly a hidden gem
First time eating here for my wife and I. I love how you can order digitally and just grab your food. The food was delicious. The Belgium waffle was amazing. The cold brew is self serve which I didn’t like but I could customize it how I wanted. I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a quaint breakfast/lunch spot.
This is a great place to come and have breakfast and lunch. They cater and they have small or large portions. Wait there is more…… you can grab items to go from the coolers. So why not share when you get home. They have e daily specials!
