Crema's Take
“This beloved New Haven institution has built a devoted following around their exceptionally fresh donuts, with customers driving miles out of their way and even choosing them for weddings—the chocolate glaze and soft, perfectly-sized treats have earned loyal weekend regulars over years of consistent quality. The cozy, approachable atmosphere makes it equally suited for a quick morning grab or lingering over pastries and traditional coffee drinks, though fair warning that their popular items like apple fritters tend to sell out fast. What really sets them apart is the genuine care in execution—from thoughtfully labeled bulk orders to a team that treats every customer like they matter.”

This use to be the best place to get the freshest donuts. I mean I woukd drive 40 miles to get 3 dozen donuts from them and then tell everyone I know where to get fresh donuts. Well, like everything else this to has sold and now the donuts are not as fresh nor do they last as long, the long johns are not full of cream from end to end, now there is just a little cream on one end. After my wife ate one she said wow, these aren't as fresh as they use to be, I then told her they sold the business last summer as I was told. Very sad one of the best places to get a fresh donut is not like every other place that sells, went down hill.
Before this i came clear across town because I thought was the best doughnut getting there when it first opened, I get doughnuts for the work place the lady literally gave a guy pastry from display me she went in the back for the old pastry that I can only describe as disgustingly old I call her she took my number told me there is new owners and new employees, like someone was going to call me but didn't she was the one to give me the garbage never will go there again!
We have been buying doughnuts almost every weekend for over a year from here. They were always soft and perfect. The chocolate glaze was perfect, the sizes were perfect and price was affordable. Now its just blah. I hate to say it. I really do not care for them since about a month ago. 😒 the chocolate glaze doesn't stick to them. It falls off on the first bite. It sucks because I wanted to like them. While ordering this morning they had some sort of mix up over a large to go order and I felt bad for the gentlemen who came to pick them up. Sorry guys, I get new owners or whatever but this is not okay. I want the old doughnuts back 😒
We ordered 300 donuts for dessert for our wedding reception. Boxes were labelled, donuts were delicious as always. Only regret was not ordering more apple fritters! And everybody loved the donuts! I had many people asking where they came from. I also loved having something from my little home town included in my wedding day 😊
The Donuts are delicious, the place is nice and cozy.
