Navis Cafe
56 Thames St, Portland, ME
Crema's Take
“Navis Cafe is a wonderfully relaxed neighborhood spot where the real star is the food rather than an expansive coffee menu—their lobster rolls are legendary for being generously packed, and reviewers rave about the quality ingredients and flavor across their sandwiches and fish & chips. It's the kind of place where families linger over unhurried meals in a chill atmosphere, with reasonable prices for Portland, though coffee enthusiasts might find the drink selection a bit limited if you're craving adventurous flavors beyond the classics.”

A nice little stop. Be nice if the coffee options were a little greater....caramel latte, hot chocolate etc. Our Mocha latte was a little light on the mocha flavor so not sure if it was missed and it was just a normal latte. Cakes were good but a side plate would be nice instead of having to eat it out of a wrapper. Nice little place to pop into whilst on a walk.
Brought my family there for a bite to eat while waiting for the Polar Express Train. I rate quantity/quality/ vs price generally when I eat places and I can pack it away lol. I got the Anchor on sourdough which was very good and large. I got the same for my son. My Mother got the Maine-uh. She really loved it, horse radish was fresh (some heat to ah) I had half of it the next day. My wife got the BLT also really liked it and I also had a soup of the day, a chicken soup in a bowl it was very good! Quantity and Quality was all there and I feel the price was fair. will stop in again if I'm in the area
Great, quiet, inexpensive and TASTY food, served in a very chillax atmosphere. We went in just after their lunch rush and I had a Moscow Mule and some delicious fish & chips. They have these funny igloos outside that I suppose might be fun for a small group or couple for complete privacy. A bit too chilly this day for us but we would love to return someday. Also great treats next door from their sister coffee and snacks bar. Highly recommend!
The lobster rolls at Navis are spectacular! It's all we had here, but they were excellent. A single lobster roll is packed with so much lobster that it was a full meal for each of us; two members of our party couldn't even finish them. And they were delicioso!
For a "cafe" I was impressed with the food quality! Flavor and ingredients were wonderful. Prices are a bit high for the Cafe experience but in Portland - to be expected. Sandwich sizes are moderate, prices listed are for just a sandwich, no sides. Typical Portland Cafe vibe. Some things I wasn't fond of that ultimatly lead to the 3 star rating - the service was subpar. I didn't catch the cashiers name but she was incredibly unfriendly and after needing to split the bill within our party (2 people) it seemed like a huge inconvenience, she even scoffed! I was shocked! After we got our meal the two cashiers sat on their phones the entire 30 mins we were there, I can see why she was so upset at the extra work of splitting the bill.. emphasis on the word "work". Also, the sun was beeming right into our faces the entire meal (approx 10:45-11 15a in Dec.) and every table was affected by the sun, no hiding from it.
