MUDPENNY Grand Rapids
570 Cesar E. Chavez Ave SW, Wyoming, MI
Crema's Take
“Tucked into an unassuming Grand Rapids corner, MUDPENNY punches well above its weight with genuinely excellent lattes and a kitchen that takes breakfast seriously—think funfetti pancakes alongside proper scrambled eggs and crispy bacon. The space is small and thoughtfully designed, with a welcoming crew who greet you at the door and staff who actually care, making it the kind of place where you can linger over espresso-focused drinks while reviewing house notes or settling in with your laptop. It's the rare coffee shop that nails both the craft beverage side and the food side, earning those 4.6 stars not through hype but through consistent, unpretentious excellence.”

First time dining at MudPenny. We got there when they opened at 9am on Saturday morning. I ordered the build your own breakfast with eggs scrambled bacon and funfetti pancake and breakfast potatoes. Also had the maple bourbon coffee which was absolutely delicious even ordered one coffee to go. My girlfriend ordered the Muddy Cristo which she said was fabulous. I will definitely be back. Our server was great, kind, nice, and helpful.
The environment was clean and welcoming. Multiple people greeted us right as we walked in, and informed us there would be a wait. Only one server was on (she did a great job, sorry I don’t remember your name). Every staff member was helpful and accommodating. I was very excited about the fire avocado toast, which I had ordered gluten free, but the portion was very small. It says it comes with bacon on it, but there were maybe two tiny diced pieces of cold-ish bacon. The seasoned breakfast potatoes were very delicious though, and was a great pairing with the avo toast. The drinks… OMG!! I’ve been thinking about that bananas foster latte since the first sip. I need another one… plus 5 more :) I also tried the maple bourbon latte, and that was great too!! My partner ordered a cortado with honey, can’t complain about that either. He had the Kevin Malone breakfast burrito with potatoes and the portion was definitely worth the price. Maybe next time I’ll order something different for food, but y’all gotta try those lattes!!
Mudpenny was a delightful Goggle "coffee near me" discovery after house hunting in the area! We stopped to get warmed up and go over our house for sale notes. We left after great lattes and incredible gormet carrot cake cupcakes. We plan to go back to try several delicious sounding breakfast items. Ask for Emma, a charming young woman with a beautiful smile. If you time it right, you may get to thank Matt, the proud owner. 👏 😍💯
I was so excited to try this brunch spot! A cozy space tucked in an unassuming area. Upon entry we were greeted by the hostess and seated quickly. I noticed that there was only 1 server for the whole restaurant which caused our service to be a bit delayed but she did a great job nonetheless. The restaurant had a chill vibe with minimal decor and a quiet noise level. Overall I had a great experience and would recommend this brunch spot to anyone! Food: BYOO with Ham, spinach, peppers, and white cheddar. All ingredients were fresh flavorful. A beautifully prepared omelette that was filling and tasty!
Fantastic food and great service. The area is a little run down around the restaurant but once you get inside it’s small but esthetic and some of the best food I’ve had just a bit experience
