Black Cap Coffee & Bakery - espresso, lattes, sandwiches, pastries
144 Main St, Stowe, VT
Crema's Take
“Nestled in the heart of Stowe, this espresso-focused café has earned a devoted following for its excellent coffee and exceptional pastries, particularly their croissants that locals rave about as some of the best around. The maple lattes and creative specialty drinks pair beautifully with their warm breakfast sandwiches and signature blueberry oats, making it a top destination whether you're catching up with friends or grabbing a quick caffeine boost before exploring town. Fair warning: this place gets packed, especially on weekend mornings, but the cozy atmosphere and genuine warmth of the staff make the wait worthwhile.”

One of my top five must-stops when in Stowe. Coffee is great! And they have a good selection of breakfast items including warm sandwich and pastries. Love the blueberry oats!
We went on a cold Saturday morning. The place was super packed. The line reached the door. We got a sneakers latte, maple latte, blt and c (bacon, lettuce, tomato, and cheddar), maple crossiant. The coffee was good. The maple crossiant was amazing!! I wish it was a warm crossiant but it was still really good. A star of that breakfast! The blt and c was good too. It came with chips. Knowing that it was a busy day in there we expected that there was a wait for the food as well as for the seats.
I visited recently to catch up with a friend who works at this location. She told me ahead of time that there were people outside protesting and that I shouldn't worry since it's legal and they don't mean any harm. Though when I arrived, one of them nearly yelled at me, saying that I should make the right choice and support the 'good workers,' one of them even suggesting I should go to Starbucks instead. I was really confused, especially since my friend afterword pointed out some of them weren't Burlington employees. Also, isn't Starbucks a known union buster and overall bad company? I won't say I have the right to decide which side is in the wrong, but it's really frustrating to hear how this is affecting my friend and other employees who had no say about decisions the company made. Nevertheless, she made me a couple fun drinks and helped me pick out some tasty treats! Perhaps I'm biased but the service was exceptional!
Was looking for a quick coffee stop after walking around town. There weren’t many options nearby, so we ended up here, which was conveniently right across from the parking lot. The place was packed when we came in around 1 p.m. Not sure what was going on, but they were closing early that day. After about a 20-minute wait, we got their signature maple latte, maple lemonade, and a maple cream cone. To be honest, the drinks were pretty underwhelming. The maple latte tasted like a regular latte, and the lemonade barely hinted at maple. Just an extra touch of sweetness buried under all the lemon. I tried to convince myself I could taste it, but no. The maple cream cone, though, was good. Strong aroma, clear maple flavor, and exactly what I was looking for at a coffee shop in Vermont.
The coffee here is excellent, and the croissant is absolutely delicious — probably the best I’ve ever had! The staff was friendly and the place has a cozy atmosphere. The only downside was the long line and waiting time, but it was definitely worth it. Highly recommend this spot in Vermont!
