Bluestone Lane Rice Village Café
2414 University Blvd, Houston, TX
Crema's Take
“Bluestone Lane's Rice Village location captures that relaxed Australian café energy with genuinely friendly staff and a solid espresso program anchored by thoughtfully prepared specialty drinks. The avocado smash and breakfast offerings are clearly the draw, though the intimate space and laptop-friendly vibe make it a legitimate study spot—just come prepared for snug two-tops and a cool interior that some find refreshing and others find a bit chilly. It's the kind of neighborhood spot where the baristas remember your name and the coffee tastes like someone actually cared about pulling the shot.”

This place has the best avocado smash! It’s a small eatery with good service and good food. My only complaint is how small the tables for two are and how cold the place is. Other than that, I had an overall good experience.
Enjoyable brunchy was had at this sleek place in the Rice Village. The staff were super friendly and attentive. Anyone can help at any stage of your visit. Nice policy so you don't have to wait for your designated server. My meal was the 3 dish one, a low carb design. My companion had the BL Burrito which was huge. The picture shows half. The drip coffee was nice and strong. The Mrs enjoyed her Flat White with oat milk. They are super flexible here. Recommend. Will return. Parking in under the new Rice Village paid policy.
As an Aussie living in Houston, I finally decided to give this place a go. Not great at all, food was disappointing, the only thing it had going for it was that it came out hot. A mountain of stodgy scramble egg packed into a sad burrito with a tiny bit of equally sad bacon and husbands big breakfast was mostly a big breakfast mountain of Kale and Spinach. Not on par with an Australian cafe by a long shot. Also what’s with the staff area aside the booths with everyone’s bags and things strewn all over the place. We won’t be back!
Awful and rude waiter. We were a table of 5, and he only put in 4 orders. So then someone had to wait 20 minutes more for their plate after we all got our plates. And then, the sunshine burrito says “served w/ wedges”. Plate comes out, no wedges. We tell him and he says no that doesn’t come with wedges. So we grab a menu and clearly it says “served w/wedges.” So we tell him and he still says, no that doesn’t come with wedges. So I ask him, so the menu is wrong, and he says no. So I ask him, so you say we are lying. And he says no. Very difficult guy. I just want what the menu says.
Highly recommend coming here to study!! The atmosphere is very nice and their service is always great Abbi and Jake were so kind and helpful. The food is always good, my favorite is the prosciutto and burratta sandwich with their wedges, very filling and always made with care. Just tried the blueberry matcha today and it’s delicious! Love it here!
