Crema's Take

Breakfast House is a beloved neighborhood gem where the details matter—from charming salt and pepper shakers to thoughtfully crafted dishes like their standout chorizo hash and made-to-order omelets that showcase quality ingredients and creative twists (vegan chorizo included). The spacious, welcoming atmosphere makes it equally perfect for a leisurely solo coffee moment or lingering with friends over a grapefruit mimosa, and their generous portions and extensive menu mean there's something for everyone to discover. With a solid 4.6-star rating and a dog-friendly patio, it's the kind of reliably excellent spot that keeps people coming back—even if they've driven past it for years without stopping in.

It had a wonderful atmosphere, and I loved the salt and pepper shakers. I ordered the make your own omelet with spinach, jalapeno and mozzarella cheese. I loved the omelet and side of potatoes (shone in photo) and, the pancake was light and fluffy. Good coffee. I am most positively coming another time.

I have been driving past The Breakfast House for years and somehow never stopped in which, looking back, is a huge mistake because this place is amazing. My friend and I hadn’t seen each other in forever and wanted a diner vibe with alcohol and he suggested this spot. They don’t take reservations so you just check in with the hostess, give your number, and wait for the magical “your table is ready” text. We came on New Year’s Day so it was busy but we only waited about fifteen minutes which honestly felt way too fast for a holiday. The staff here are next level. Every single person we interacted with was insanely nice and genuinely seemed happy to be there. The whole vibe is super chill and welcoming, it feels like a bunch of friends just hanging out in a restaurant. It is impossible not to feel comfortable here. I ordered four mango mimosas because I clearly have no self-control and my favorite breakfast dish, Huevos Rancheros. I made sure the server confirmed it would be authentic Mexican-style and asked him to add salsa verde on top. It was everything I hoped for and more, perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and exactly what I wanted. I cleaned my plate and immediately regretted not ordering more. The bathrooms are spotless and the restaurant itself is super clean. Every interaction I had with the staff was excellent and nothing about this visit disappointed me. I am so glad I finally went and I will definitely be back soon because this place deserves it and I deserve to have more of those mango mimosas.

This place is very nice! They have a large menu with tons of food options and a huge selection of alcoholic drinks. I had the crepes and a grapefruit mimosa, and both were really good. I also enjoyed practicing my Spanish with Elvis, one of the servers here. He was super friendly and made the experience even better. This place is definitely worth a visit!

Good classic brunch options with lots to choose from. The chilaquiles and the chorizo hash are both great, and the omelettes are tasty. Good reliable spot that gets busy on weekends, so would suggest planning around that.

I came here for breakfast and tried the chorizo hash with vegan chorizo. The flavors were bold, the portion size was generous, and I really appreciated that they had a vegan option for the chorizo, it was seasoned well and didn’t feel like a compromise. The potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft inside, and the dish was hearty and satisfying. The service was friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere was casual and welcoming, perfect for a weekend breakfast spot. My only critique is that the dish was a little on the heavier/salty side, and the presentation could’ve been a bit more polished, but overall it was still very tasty. I would definitely come back and try some of their other menu items. A solid breakfast spot in Chicago with good variety and options for different diets.
