Michelangelo's Coffee House
114 State St, Madison, WI
Crema's Take
“Tucked into Madison's coffee scene, this espresso-focused café thrives on its inviting atmosphere and genuine hospitality, where staff remember details (like saving lost cards) and regulars linger over cortados and specialty lattes alike. The art-adorned space pulls people in year-round—whether it's a summer farmers market iced coffee run or a cozy winter evening with a book—though arrive early if you want a guaranteed seat at this deservedly popular neighborhood spot. Their creative seasonal drinks like the black forest cherry frappuccino showcase an enthusiasm beyond standard coffee, making it as much a destination for specialty exploration as it is a reliable go-to for traditional espresso drinks.”

Best local spot for coffee. Can be difficult to get a seat, but still worth a visit regardless.
Michelangelo’s is great any time of day, any day of the week! A summer Saturday morning for an iced coffee during the farmers market, or a cold winter evening for specialty latte and a good book; it’s comfortable, cozy, welcoming, and delicious. There is always a fun drink to try.
Michalangelo's is one of my favorite coffee shops because of the decor and their black forest cherry frappuccino. Im usually more of a cortado guy though and that isn't too bad. The chai and matcha are weak though and there are definitely places to get better espresso. Don't quote me on this but I think they have both a medium and a dark espresso roast. They are often very busy and sometimes it shows, last time I went the person at the register forgot to put my order in for the other baristas and I ended up waiting a while before realizing that no one would be making my coffee if I didn't say anything. No problem though, i mentioned this and they immediately put my cup in queue. Anyway, Michaelangelo's is the coffee chop closest to my heart but i'm giving it a 4/5 stars
Great little coffee spot! Delicious coffee, friendly service, and honest staff. I even lost my card in the lobby, and when I went back and they had saved it for me. Truly appreciate that kind of care!
This café was just okay—nothing particularly memorable. Despite the artwork on the walls, the place felt a bit dank and lacking energy. On the plus side, there’s plenty of seating in both the front and back, so it might work well for students or folks looking to camp out for a while. Service was meh. I ordered a $9 coffee (and even tipped $2), but the woman behind the counter just set it down without saying a word. I only realized it was ready because I saw it sitting there a few minutes later. There aren’t a lot of café options in the area, so it fills a gap—but personally, I prefer the Starbucks around the corner.
