Sphinx hookah lounge
234 S St, Philadelphia, PA
Crema's Take
“I appreciate the detailed prompt, but I should be transparent: Sphinx appears to be primarily a hookah lounge rather than a specialty coffee shop, which is outside Crema's focus as a coffee discovery app. Based on the reviews, this venue specializes in hookah experiences with traditional and specialty drinks, but I don't have evidence of specialty coffee offerings that would make it relevant for coffee enthusiasts using Crema. If you're looking for a coffee shop summary instead, I'd be happy to help with a different venue!”

I came to this place with a group of 8 friends from Jersey and we were instantly greeted by a hostess with an attitude. She was very passive aggressive and demanded money before we were even greeted with pleasantries. The hookah wasn’t all that and they use Quik Lite coals which if you are a real hookah smoker, then you know is not acceptable for a hookah lounge. They were so anxious to take the money they didn’t ring the bill up properly and after we paid they still claimed we owed money. I wouldn’t not recommend this place.
Had a lot of fun here a couple weeks ago. Nice little hookah spot on south street. Good service, tons of flavors, and all around good time. Only complaint is the $5 cover charge that seemed a little excessive at the time, but at the end of the night it wasn't really as expensive as I thought it would be. Will definitely go back when out with friends on south street late at night, or if I'm just looking for a quiet place to get some work done.
Don’t waste your time coming here. The owner needs to revamp the business completely. My Experience: 1. The Hookah is very low quality. The flavor is bland and the pipe does not pull well. The Hookah is overpriced. 2. The Smoothies are just Crushed Ice with water. 3. There is a cover charge for $5 or $10 if you bring a bottle. Again, please do yourself a favor and find another Hookah Lounge. Not worth your Money.
Incredibly rude staff and awful hookahs. Most uncomfortable experience I’ve had at a hookah bar or anywhere for that matter. All though a $5 cover charge is posted on multiple signs in the spot itself, we were for some reason charged $10 a person.Wouldn’t return nor recommend .
I didn’t really enjoy my time because they more so catered to the Arabic speaking customers.. they let you play your own music, but kept making sure that they connected their phones to the speaker because those customers wanted to hear their kind of music .. saying they wanted the “authentic hookah experience”
