Crema's Take

Coffee Works has been a Sacramento institution since 1982, and it shows in the lovingly worn-in, old-school atmosphere that feels like stepping into a time capsule of coffee culture. Their espresso-focused menu and stellar pastry program—particularly their white chocolate and strawberry scone—make it worth a visit, though their single-origin selection can be hit-or-miss. It's the kind of place where you can linger for hours with your laptop or meet friends over a leisurely breakfast burrito, surrounded by the kind of authenticity that newer coffee shops try hard to recreate.

All I wanted was a simple colombian coffee and no, you can't get it.And they think mexico is columbia. They don't know, columbia. Is another country. And the copy they have is pretty bad.I didn't care for it at all.

When I was in high school in the Bay Area in the 90s, I used to drive into Berkeley and hang out at the college coffee shops. I thought they were so cool and alternative with their community bulletin boards and quirky employee-made signs. This cafe is just like those places. It was like stepping back in time and I liked it. Decent egg salad sandwich. Interesting cold brew drinks. Strong wifi. Clean bathroom. Tons of tables.

Came here on a Saturday morning, and it wasn’t too packed, which was nice. You can definitely tell this coffee shop has been around since 1982—the interior has an old-school vibe that feels like a step back in time. The coffee was pretty good, and the turkey croissant sandwich we had was delicious. However, the coffee cake was pretty dry and not the best. If you’re looking for a modern, trendy coffee shop with all the latest aesthetics, this isn’t it. But if you want a relaxed spot with a nostalgic feel where you can enjoy a cup of coffee, this place is worth checking out.
