Crema's Take
“Tucked into Rittenhouse Square, this plant-filled café feels like stepping into a bright, botanical sanctuary where coffee is taken seriously—their creative signature drinks like the Banana Bread Matcha and custom mochas showcase real innovation, and they're genuinely accommodating with dietary requests. The whimsical, thoughtfully decorated space draws crowds for leisurely sit-downs with pastries and specialty toasts, though you'll want to arrive early or be patient for a table and expect premium pricing for your carefully crafted cup.”

The Ground Rittenhouse is such an adorable stop in Philly, the interior is so whimsical and bright, and there’s greenery everywhere! The menu is very unique and they are very open to creating the drink that you’re craving. On a Saturday afternoon, there wasn’t much seating without a wait time so we opted for take-out. I got an iced matcha latte with oat milk, and they were happy to add rose syrup for me instead of simple syrup! The wait was pretty quick and the layering of the drink was wonderful, and I was happy with the matcha quality at first glance. The rose was not too sweet, and the matcha flavor stood out perfectly. You will pay a little more at The Ground for the extra things you add, but you’ll get a great quality drink!
Great experience! Beautiful plants surrounding the space while you enjoy your delicious coffee and sweet or savory specialty toasts. Be prepared to get early or wait for a table there is only a small section of two seater tables in the back. Try the black sesame banana toast!
The Ground Rittenhouse is an adorable cafe + plant shop. Just be prepared to drop $10 on a small drink - tasty, yes… expensive, also yes. I got the banana bread matcha and it truly tasted like banana bread. Sooo yummy! They have a few tables in the back, which luckily were empty when I sat down. Within 30 minutes (on a weekday around 9am) they were all full. Very close together as well. I could see myself coming back on a “treat myself” type of day.
This spot is a beautiful gem in Rittenhouse Square. As you enter, you are met with such peaceful and thoughtful decor and plants 🪴. I had the Banana Bread Matcha and an Almond Croissant. Both were absolutely delicious! The seating was a little tight in the back (I could be a smidge claustrophobic). But I found a comfy chair close to the entrance - it was perfect for me. The staff was pleasant and kept up with the pace and the crowd. I will absolutely come back to this establishment and might purchase a plant on the way out.
The ambiance is really nice, and I love the decor! I had the nut-free peanut butter gluten free Oreo mocha, and it was so good The end of the line was right by the inside of the door when I arrived, and it was out the door when I left – a steady stream of people coming here I loved the seasonal options they had for coffee, but I was disappointed by how small the coffee was compared to how much it cost ($8.10 including taxes but before the tip)
