Crema's Take

Nestled inside Laulima Nature in Hilo, this intimate café is beloved for its exceptional espresso drinks and showstopping house-made sodas infused with local Hawaiian flavors like crack seed, ume shiso, and kulolo that you genuinely won't find anywhere else. Bethany and her partner have cultivated a warm, unhurried space where every cup—whether a meticulously pulled shot or a kulolo soda paired with haupia ice cream—tastes like it was made with real care and creativity. This is the kind of hidden gem that turns visitors into devoted fans after just one visit.

Hidden gem and some of the best coffee I had on the Hilo side! Love what Bethany & her partner are doing at Kalo & Cream. I had an spro soda with crack seed syrup (I think) & it was so delicious! Got a bag of bean from Terrain Coffee for my company team members & can’t wait to try it out. Wish Kalo & Cream the best! Keep it up guys 🤙

The most unique and unusual sodas out there, but you won't want to pass up trying them. Not one, but ALL the flavors! My favorite is the ume shiso with crack seed and kulolo coming in very close after that. You can find them at the Hilo Night Market on Fridays and the Laulima Nature Center during the week, but the best part is you can get the soda syrups for home. I even take them with me when I'm traveling and give them as gifts! They recently added coffee and mamaki tea to their menu. If you're a tea lover, try the sparkling mamaki tea!

I love the fancy sodas. You can't get these anywhere else. I was hesitant to try the kulolo soda, but to my surprise, it had all the yummiest of kulolo without the grit. Try it with haupia ice cream. Im drooling just thinking about it. I love eating pickle mango, so the pickle mango soda is one of my favorites. Crack seed soda with vanilla ice cream- MUST TRY!

This is the best and most fresh soda I’ve ever had! I’ve been a fan of this small business for awhile. Every coffee I’ve had from them has been exceptional! The service is friendly and the vibe is so fun! I can’t wait for my next fix!

This is a cafe located inside the Laulima Nature. They do specialty coffees (they make espressos, cortados, and lattes), and a range of unique fancy sodas with local syrups that they make and source from the island. Some of its flavors include crack seed, pickled mango and li hing. Brittany, the cashier, was so helpful and made great suggestions. My stomach was a little upset and she recommended a mamaki tea. In addition to having the small cafe at the nature center, they also have an online site where you can buy the syrups or you can purchase them in some select stores around the island. I'll definitely be trying more of their drinks!
