Crema's Take

Tucked inside a Bakersfield mall, Toasted is a reliable neighborhood spot where consistency is the calling card—regulars rave about ordering the same beloved dishes month after month. The kitchen delivers generous portions and solid traditional fare (think monte cristos and chilaquiles), though service can be a mixed bag depending on who's behind the counter. It's the kind of unpretentious place where you'll find families lingering over breakfast and friends settling in for a slow, unhurried sit.

The customer service was extremely mid, not a super friendly from the host to the server, but the food was pretty good

4.2/5 for the monte cristo sandwich. Really good sandwich, but I wish it had more meat in it instead of bread. Flavor was amazing but a bit pricey. Energetic vibes and friendly staff.

Hole in a wall, in a mall. One bubbly and energetic staff person moments after opening greeted and seated us. We were the only customers, having our choice of 4 top tables. They DO have a counter. One of our favorites is to watch the kitchen activity. But this counter stands alone, seems to be for single eaters. Excellent menu, diverse offerings, a lot of pork and cheese, and not so much for me on offer. I went for the tri-tip omelet, no cheese, fruit & a biscuit. Excellent. Nice green sauce & Jalapeños giving it a vibrant flavor appeal. If you've read me before about biscuits, this is more of a roll. VERY fluffy, light crumb top and fresh as can be. My wife really liked both the latte and Huevos Ranchero. Fruit "cups" are the same as the large ramekins we have at home, more of a large mug than a cup. Incredibly fresh, ripe, sweet or acid, just delish. Generous, and we took this in a to-go cup. We were gifted something not on the menu, "Ha-mika" tea (photo), which might be straight hibiscus leaf, though I remain dubious. It is lightly sweet, insanely refreshing. We got our travels mugs to take it on the road. The cook definitely does not want anyone going hungry. Portions might not look massive, but they are and we were able to finish our plates (barely).

If consistency was a place it would be this restaurant by far !!! Been coming here for over a year once or twice a month and I’ve ordered the same thing every time because of just how good the chilaquiles are! It beats your authentic mexican restaurants and it’ll beat your moms too hahah. In all seriousness this restaurant deserves all the praise it gets, from the service to the atmosphere this restaurant is by far the best i’ve been to in Bakersfield it simply speaks for itself !!!
