COFFEE BAR
1635 SW Washburn Ave, Lawrence, KS
Crema's Take
“Tucked into Lawrence's student apartments, this coffee bar combines a welcoming community vibe with a full breakfast and lunch menu featuring house-made touches like fresh salsa and creative mock-tails. While espresso consistency could use some refinement, the shop shines as a gathering spot with good ambiance, friendly staff, and fun events like LGBTQ karaoke nights that keep locals coming back for the experience, not just the coffee.”

The flat white: terrible… they were not able to pull a good shot at all… the coffee tasted horrible. Seems like they need to dial in their beans correctly or learn to pull good shots.. because this was really bad. I also ordered a bigger coffee with syrup, it was a lot better, maybe because of all the sugar
Stopped by for a burrito and drip coffee this morning… My burrito was made fresh, and came with their house-made salsa. They have a full food menu along with a sizable range of coffee drinks. It was a laid-back atmosphere with plenty of seating. Even though they were busy, service was fairly quick.
Stopped in here during a visit to Topeka but since my sister lives there she's a more frequent visitor. They have good coffee and the overall look and ambiance is also good. We had planned to have a light meal there after an appointment I had that ended after 5:00. Online it said they were open until 10:00, when we got there we found out it was only until 8:00. That was fine, as I didn't want to be too late driving back to Overland Park. However, there's no mention on their website regarding the fact that they no longer serve food, other than what's in their pastry case, after 4:00. 😞 Definitely pertinent information that should be on the website. So we had a choice of one kind of quiche for our meal. The quiche was okay but it got warmed up by microwave and so parts of it were initially quite warm and most of it was cold. Some quiche I can do cold this didn't happen to be one that I enjoyed that way. It was okay but pricey for the size you got and nothing memorable about it. The single staff person that was there was nice but did not go out of her way to really engage. That's kind of a highly desirable quality for coffee shop staff in my opinion. So overall I would certainly go back again, but not expecting anything other than coffee drinks or tea.
It's a nice little coffee shop & bar tucked in with the student apartments. The food menu was fairly limited on the website and Facebook page. I was pleasantly surprised to see a wider variety on their large digital menu. I enjoyed a Strawberry Swiss Roll, and my boyfriend ordered the Southwest Breakfast Burrito, as well as two Vietnamese lattes with Cinnamon. The pastry is massive and filling. What a whimsical treat! The burrito doesn't look like much, but my boyfriend stated just how filling it was. The salsa provided has a nice touch of cilantro. The atmosphere is very cozy while still maintaining a modern design. The art displayed is very unique and has a very personal touch. I assume the works are made by Washburn students and/or the staff. A large digital display of their menu makes it easy to read while in line. *** I would love to see their selection of syrup flavors on the board, which would help a smoother ordering experience*** The pastry displays are delightful and offer pastries that other coffee shops do not have.
They had a LGBTQ karaoke night. The singing was terrible but the memories are great! The staff made me a mock-tail that was delicious! I’ve been there a couple time since, each time was pleasant.
