Hazel & Jade

Crema's Take
“Hazel & Jade is a quietly beloved bakery where serious pastry craftsmanship meets genuine warmth, earning devoted fans who rave about their almond croissants and vegan pastries that rival anything in Southern California. Beyond coffee, this is a place where families celebrate milestones, couples commission wedding cakes, and people linger over breakfast knowing they're supporting bakers who actually care about accommodating dietary needs and special requests. The slow, thoughtful vibe makes it perfect for meaningful conversations or solo moments with genuinely exceptional food.”

Came across this bakery and figured we'd give it a try. The sausage roll was delicious and their breakfast croissant. We also ordered our baby a cake to celebrate her 4 months (we celebrate each month haha). We ordered the berry cake....and let me tell ya....absolutely yummy!! We don't typically order vegan but this cake was just perfect for us! Not too sweet, moist cake, simple and delicious! Highly recommend!
Such a cute quiet bakery to sit and enjoy a pastry with coffee! I found out about Hazel & Jade because I'm vegan and wanted gender reveal cupcakes. I found it sweet that they called me to discuss how I'd like them made after submitting an inquiry online. While in the bakery, I picked up their "ham & cheese" croissant and holy moly. This is the best vegan pastry I ever had. When you toast them and they're nice & warm, it is the flakiest croissant that is so soft and airy inside. The "cheese" is melted/gooey inside and is convincingly like cheese, and the ham gives a wonderful smoky flavor. It's so good I bought 2 more when I went back to pick up my cupcakes. Also, their coffee cake is DELICIOUS. It's the perfect amount of sweetness. I find many vegan baked goods to just be overwhelmingly sweet but their coffee cake was not too sweet and truly like a comforting hug when you also warm it up. This is the best vegan bakery I ever experienced! Also, they certainly delivered with the cupcakes! It was such a joy to bite into it and share a sweet moment with my husband. Definitely recommend this place 100%!
We had our wedding in August 2025, and Hazel & Jade Bakery made our cake! We are out-of-towners, and it was difficult for us to find an affordable kosher bakery. We looked for the next best option to keep the catering at least kosher style with their vegan options. (Hazel & Jade, if you are reading this, I would recommend you reach out to a Jewish organization that can hechsher your business and could open up your market even more. It is fairly simple to certify vegan bakeries as kosher). Hazel & Jade Bakery got back to me promptly about creating the cake, and their form is easy to follow. I was worried about their tiered cakes needing to be butter cream, as it’s not my favorite, but until this day, truly, one of the best cakes I have ever had! If we did not say it was vegan, I’m sure no one would have guessed that. We got the berry fruit tiered cake and an additional gluten free chocolate cake. I also had a piece of the chocolate gluten-free cake, and it did not taste grainy like most gluten free pastries. We asked for a couple of flowers on the cake, and we were charged an additional $35. We had come with the impression the flowers would be made of icing or something edible, not real flowers. Because our budget was tight, if we would have known this, we would have placed a couple of flowers on the cake ourselves. Besides the up-charge, the prices were fair and lower than expected! We will definitely be back the next time we visit San Diego!
This is hands-down one of my favorite bakeries I’ve ever been to. They are by far the best bakery in San Diego, and along with Cinnaholic in LA, definitely in the top three in SoCal if not the best! I highly recommend the coffee cake, the feta biscuit, and the sausage roll, and I haven’t had a single thing here that I haven’t liked!
The best pastries hands down!!! The almond croissant was the best I've ever had! If I brought a box of pastries to work a didn't tell anyone that they were vegan, the box would be devoured in minutes and everyone would be asking me where I got them from. The cinnamon roll was perfection. They also have incredible breakfast sandwiches and coffee. My family and I loved it so much we went 2 days in a row. We would have gone more, but we were only in San Diego for the weekend. I can't recommend this place highly enough! So amazing!!!
