Bread & Friends

Crema's Take

Bread & Friends is a Portland bakery-brunch hybrid where the pastries are genuinely showstopping, especially their kouign-amann varieties that have reviewers speechless and the savory breakfast items like pastrami biscuits that deliver intense, memorable flavors. The space cultivates a relaxed, lingering atmosphere with charming decorations that invites you to settle in with friends, and they're generous enough to stay open late so you can swing by for dinner too. This is comfort food elevated without pretension, where every element from the French toast to the pastry cases gets thoughtful, delicious attention.

Had breakfast here and everyone in my group was very happy with their food. Definitely not a place if you want a super basic breakfast, though that isn’t a criticism. I enjoyed a delicious brown butter latte and their mini pastrami biscuit sandwiches. Everything well made and service was efficient.

The pastrami biscuit and French toast with the “everything pulled apart” are immaculate with intense and great flavors! We definitely will be back for more! Vibes and decorations also very cute, this is a 10/10 bakery and brunch spot if you’re in Portland!

I want to tell you about my experience here but I cannot think about anything other than how delicious the kouign-amann is. The black cherry and chocolate kouign-amann has to be the best pastry I’ve ever eaten. It’s a perfect balance of butter and sugar and crisp and that interior chocolate with the black cherry … I’m taking this energy in 2026! But also the restaurant is so light, and warm, the staff the personable as anything and we had such a delightful breakfast. We arrived early (before 9AM) and it does look like it gets busy, so if avoiding a wait is any motivation, this is a spot worth getting out of bed for!

Literally can’t wait to go back to Portland to eat at this gem of a restaurant. The pastrami biscuits were amazing, the mushroom truffle omelette was off the charts and the Dutch pancake was such a gorgeous and delightful preparation. We left with a bag full of treats and sourdough bread for home as well. The hostess was great at getting us seated and service was so attentive and gracious. The design is the restaurant was clean, fresh and bright. This is a must try if you are in Portland.

There probably need to be three categories of reviews for Bread and Friends as it is a bakery, a brunch spot and a dinner spot. I am reviewing the dinner category. When you walk into a casual bakery don’t be fooled by the setting, the food is spectacular. This is a true gourmet experience. The dishes were impeccably crafted with an amazing flavor range that made you say wow with your first bite. Every dish was excellent. There were three of us dining and we shared all the different dishes and the portions were perfect for sharing.
