Water Street Coffee Joint

2603 S Sprinkle Rd, Kalamazoo, MI

Crema's Take

Water Street Coffee Joint in Kalamazoo is a beloved drive-thru destination for serious espresso lovers who value quality beans and genuine care in their craft, though the service can be inconsistent and pricing—particularly for plant-based milk upgrades—feels a bit steep for what you're getting. The team genuinely puts love into both their coffee and their hearty breakfast offerings like their crispy bacon, cheese, and spinach burrito, making it worth a visit if you're willing to take a moment to sit down rather than rush through the drive-thru window. It's the kind of place where you'll leave with fresh roasted beans in hand and friendly conversation with staff who actually care about your order.

My go to Drive thru spot for a great coffee when in town. Always get a bag of beans as well.

Great coffee (pretty pricey, but its a treat), super slow service at this one. Things seem much more efficient at the other locations.

Nice drinks and staff. Sinisterly disproportionate markup on drinks for choosing oat milk (an extra $1 for plant milk, when actual extra cost can't be more than $0.45). Plant milks are mainstream now, and the market will choose the fairer option. Continuing to treat them like a luxury makes Water Street Coffee Joint stuck operating in the year 2015. And at the end I was asked to leave a tip on top of my $7.63 drink. LOL!

The coffee and food here is made with love. Like a lot of other water streets, this one has very friendly and thorough staff. That being said, this spot is not going to get you your entire order within 10 seconds of you ordering it. It’s a smaller chain run by good people who care that you have a good cup of coffee so they take a little longer to prepare it. If you’re in a rush, I would suggest ordering ahead with their website and picking it up as opposed to ordering at the window. Do I think this is the most efficient thing for an advertised drive thru location? Not really, but you do get what you ordered. However - I’ve been going there for about a year and their wait time has improved a lot, so they are trying and it’s nice to see they heard the other people mention it. Their Monte Carlo is delicious and their matcha always tastes great. Not a huge fan of their queen/ice cream frappes - they aren’t really visually appealing but they taste okay. I like their smoothies - note that these are not like Starbucks’ milkshakes, they’re actual smoothies so they’re a little crunchier. Overall, it’s a solid place to grab coffee and a bite to eat. The staff is always incredibly friendly. They don’t automatically calculate a tip and there really isn’t a place to give them one unless you tell them that you’re tipping them so remember to ask them to add one on because they still deserve one.

I ordered the bacon cheese spinach burrito which also comes with potatoes it was super bomb but made to be crispy so a bit flakey, Definetly not a car food. If you're looking for a new interesting drink they offer raspberry mochas I've never had one but loved it.
