Crema's Take

Tucked into Charleston's heart, this beloved bookstore-café hybrid has earned its reputation as a genuine community gathering spot where you can linger for hours with a thoughtfully crafted coffee and a pastry while browsing new and used books, local art, and gifts. The baristas are known for their genuine warmth and willingness to make recommendations, creating an atmosphere that feels less like a transaction and more like a conversation with someone who actually cares about your experience. It's the kind of place visitors to West Virginia make a point to return to, where the robust coffee pairs perfectly with generous scones and the whole space invites you to slow down and stay awhile.

Love this book store/coffee shop. This place has been a Charleston staple for years. I don't live in West Virginia but every time I am passing thru I stop.

I was introduced to Taylor Books by my best friend. It’s a magical place. Always a bevy of different drinks, yummy pastries, fruit, cakes… I could go on. Growing up in a city of 8 million I’m accustomed to specialty coffee shops. So to be exposed to Taylor’s has been a joy. The staff are just delightful.

Such a fun space of books, gifts, local art and great coffee and pastries! The barista was so friendly and full of suggestions. I loved the art and the quaint location. It’s a shop I’ll remember from our coffee shop quest!

Amazing book store, with great staff and a selection of new and used books. The cafe here is excellent, with great options and very affordable coffee. I chatted with staff here for about ten minutes, swapping book recommendations and chatting about the store (and I walked away with a few more books as a result). We were just passing through town on a road trip, and this place stunned us to the point that we'll make sure to be back next time we drive by.

This is more a Taylor-Made Experience with more than books, books, books. The cafe offers robust coffees, pre-prepped salads, huge pastries including a great scone that matched well with my coffee, and my green salad. The seating area includes comfy comfy seating. The art gallery featured the painting of a local artist and the pottery and ceramics section offered more works of local artists. Right in between those 2 galleries is a semi secluded meeting space, tonight occupied by a dinner book club of 10. Aisles of books are wide and low light. $1 book rack outside. This is way beyond a book store! They are part of the Historic District mini-golf event in June and provide golf clubs for the mini golf stations. Restroom for customers only with keypad access. Accessible paid parking in street or downtown lots with curb cuts.
