Wheelhouse
225 Coxe Ave, Asheville, NC
Crema's Take
“Wheelhouse is a gem on South Slope that feels like stepping into a cozy, retro country retreat where the owners Cole and Amanda genuinely make you feel like an old friend. Their house-made syrups elevate both traditional espresso drinks and creative signature creations like their strawberry mocha latte, and the quality is so good they regularly sell out of fan favorites like matcha. With a laid-back vibe, attentive service, and both indoor and outdoor seating perfect for lingering, it's become the kind of local hangout spot that keeps people coming back.”

The atmosphere is retro, country cozy. The service was 10/10!!! They ran out of matcha when we came in, but understandably because the drinks are SO DELISH! We tried the strawberry mocha latte instead and it was phenomenal. Besides their coffees and matcha’s, they also offer teas, pastries, and a full bar. Do not miss out of Wheelhouse!!
Wheelhouse has quickly become my new hangout spot. Amanda and Cole are the NICEST people you will ever meet. Their house-made syrups are delicious, and I love that they've partnered with other local businesses in town like Matcha Nude, Cooperative Coffee Roasters, and Mattie Lou's Bakery (to name a few) to provide a wide variety of coffee, tea, and baked goods. It's a cozy atmosphere with plenty of seating and a great location at the very bottom of South Slope. There's even a few parking spots out front, but if those are full there's plenty of on street parking on Coxe Ave. I highly recommend swinging by if you're just visiting or if you're local :)
Wonderful café! Our drinks were delicious and the staff are all so sweet. Great vibe with indoor and outdoor seating. Can’t wait to come by again!
Really nice new coffee spot on south slope. The owners are very friendly, and they definitely know how to make a good latte. The espresso wasn't burnt, unlike a lot of local cafes. Bonus points for the AVL regional airport mug. They also heated up my baked good without me needing to request it. Prices are on the high-ish end ($7 for a specialty coffee as of me writing this), but the coffee was made excellently and the syrups all looked homemade, so I wasn't bothered by the price point. Plain coffees were cheaper. Very excited to see what the bar aspect is like once that gets going too. Definitely worth checking out, especially if you work/live in the area. I could see this being a great spot for regulars.
Guys this place is a true gem!! Cole and Amanda are the kindest and make you feel welcomed immediately. Coffee, food, and vibes are all 5 ⭐️
