Crema's Take

Tucked into Coral Gables, Frankie and Wally's feels like the neighborhood spot that's been beloved for years, even if it's newer—cozy and inviting with a warm service style that makes you want to linger over coffee and a breakfast sandwich. Their carefully crafted sandwiches (especially the Wally) and chocolate chip cookies are clearly labors of love, paired with excellent coffee and an expertly curated mini market that rewards browsing. It's the kind of place where the quality of execution shines through in every detail, from fresh ingredients to thoughtful service systems.

This sandwich shop is absolutely adorable. The atmosphere really is so cozy and inviting, like it’s been there for years. The service was so kind and the system of having two lines was brilliant to keep things moving quickly. The food, was really quite bland. The ingredients don’t taste like they have a flavor or seasoning at all. I had to add so many things to get it to have any flavor, mustard, salt, oil and vinegar and even still, it was not enough. The meat is cut so thinly which is fantastic, but no real taste. I was so disappointed in the lack of flavor, as I really wanted and want to like this place. The location is fantastic and I wish I could say the food is worth coming back for. If you’re looking for a cute place to sit, this is it. But flavor is really quite lacking.

I stopped by Frankie and Wally’s today (Friday, 2/20/26) around noon, hoping to see if the hype lived up to the social media buzz. Unfortunately, the execution hasn't caught up to the marketing yet. The Experience: The Entry: I was greeted outside by a staff member who asked if I was dining in or taking out. After saying "take-out," he let me in and handed me a menu. So far, so good. The Wait: I spent 10 minutes waiting in line, only to be met with a pretty cold reception. The Service: There was no "Welcome" or "Good afternoon." Instead, the first words out of the cashier's mouth were: "If you are ordering a sandwich, it’s a 45-minute to 1-hour wait." The Takeaway: While I understand this is a new opening and the "influencer" crowd is out in full force, the customer service was severely lacking. There were no quick-service or prepared options offered as an alternative to the long wait—just a "take it or leave it" attitude. My Advice: Plan better and execute better. If you know the wait is an hour, maybe have that conversation at the door rather than after someone has already stood in line. I hope to come back much later down the road once the hype dies down and the service side is figured out.
