Hazel Coffee

Crema's Take
“Hazel Coffee brings a genuinely welcoming energy to Ann Arbor with spacious, thoughtfully designed digs that feel perfect for lingering over conversation or work—and the ample parking is a rare gift in this college town. Their espresso-focused menu shines with creative signature drinks like their standout banana bread latte that walk the line between indulgent and balanced, though their matcha lands less consistently. The team behind the counter clearly cares about making each visit feel special, which shows in both the attention to detail throughout the space and the genuine warmth regulars rave about.”

Visited Hazel Coffee with my sister as a pre-work coffee treat. The shop is very cute inside, and everyone working there was welcoming! The coffee was fairly pricey compared to the typical iced coffee for that size. I ordered the banana bread latte, which had great flavor overall, but I added foam and unfortunately it wasn’t very good. It was quite chunky and didn’t add much flavor to the drink. My sister ordered the strawberry chip latte, and it seemed to be lacking the strawberry flavor. Also, foam was much looser than mine. Overall, both drinks ended up being a bit underwhelming for the price. That said, I’m sharing this as constructive feedback rather than negativity. The atmosphere and staff were great, and I hope this helps the business continue to improve and grow.
Unfortunately this was the worst matcha that I’ve tried in Ann Arbor (And the worst that I have ordered at any cafe overall but I don’t think it’s fair to compare on such a large scale) I ordered the banana matcha with almond milk. I paid $9.54 for one drink which is honestly quite expensive. Unfortunately, it was incredibly weak and watery. What it could have made up for in poor matcha profile and quality, it also did not in flavor. Honestly, the only reason I knew the drink had banana flavoring in it was because I was the one ordering it. Perhaps the baristas have not been trained properly on how to make a matcha with the appropriate ratio, but overall the drink was flavorless and lukewarm at pick up. The cream cap or whatever this store calls it was extremely disappointing too. I tried it both separately and mixed into the matcha, and it tasted only of heavy cream and no other flavor. Again, for $10 I can’t say I was happy. From having tried countless coffee/matcha in A2, the U.S., and abroad I’ve noticed that most places are either good at matcha or coffee, but rarely both. This is a review on matcha alone as I have not tried their coffee. Perhaps it’s good, I’m not sure. The aesthetics are very cute. The ambiance was nice and the drinks are very pretty in photos. Overall, I can’t say I would visit Hazel again. For the prices and quality I’m pretty sure I do not need to come back.
Such a cute coffee shop! If you’re looking to study or have a conversation with a friend, this is the place to go! I ordered the banana bread (or banana nut) latte and it was INCREDIBLE - not too sweet and the perfect amount of banana. The coffee is reasonably priced as well. Will be coming back soon!!
Pleasantly surprising. It’s been a while since a new cafe impressed me with something different. Spacious to start. Ample parking in the back. Latte = creamy and balanced in flavor, not too bitter or sweet. The creaminess of the espresso cannot be stressed enough, the photo shows it well. Chocolate scone was soft and not the usual stale texture I’ve had before elsewhere. Had notes of orange which was addicting. Truly 10/10 experience, no complaints 💖
What an incredible new addition to the Ann Arbor coffee scene! When visiting Hazel, you can tell how much love and attention to detail went into this place. We visited on a Sunday morning and were greeted by welcoming staff, and a great vibe. The place was super busy, but it didn’t seem to phase the staff. Impressive for a brand new shop! They really have their branding on point, which is so fun to see from a locally owned place. I love when owners have a vision for their business. We tried a classic whole milk latte, and the seasonal Michigan Maple Latte. Both were delicious and exceeded expectations! We were planning to grab and go, but the place was so inviting, we stayed for a while and enjoyed our coffee. Wishing Hazel all the future success they deserve. If you’re looking for a locally owned coffee shop to spend your money at, this is it!
