Uptown Cafe
131 M St NE, Washington, DC
Crema's Take
“This Uptown spot strikes that rare balance between a quick caffeine pit stop and a place worth lingering with a book, where a vanilla latte tastes like you've escaped to somewhere European and a bacon egg and cheese sandwich keeps customers coming back in droves. Staff move with genuine warmth even during the constant rush, and you'll walk out surprised at how far your money stretched—fresh croissants, chocolate-forward mochas, and oversized breakfast burritos all hovering around the $6-8 mark. It's the kind of neighborhood cafe that manages to feel like both a trusted everyday refuge and a small discovery worth telling friends about.”

look, they are constantly taking orders for the bacon egg and cheese so im gonna guess those are probably a solid order. i came here for the french toast, looked like a nice lil uncoventional breakfast spot, and i was satisfied. solid coffee, solid breakfast but they are so busy with to-go orders they kept messing up peoples orders including mine. i had to wait almost 30 mins because they gave my order to someone else. in those 30 mins i saw them mess up at least 4 other orders. 🤣 hits the spot especially for the price, good like shop that serves food.
This place is great! Staff are kind and service is fast. I got a croissant, which they offered to warm, and a super chocolately mocha, all for only $6.
I got the vanilla café latte and it was seriously the best latte I have had in a long time. It reminds me of a latte you would have on vacation outside of the U.S. And the customer service was also top-tier. The cashier was warm, friendly, and welcoming. The cafe environment itself was clean, spacious, and comfortable.
This cafe has just about everything a convenience store would have and that means their either super busy all the time and all of that is going orrrrr they’re not paying attention to the excessive amount of snacks they have out. Plentiful options, nonetheless. That’s just My own personal opinion, the entire place was dirty and has webs even on the stools, half and half boxes (hopefully empty) by the trash, which tells me they don’t clean as often. $38 on basically nothing. I ordered the pancake that comes with 2 eggs and bacon. Ordered toast separately. Unfortunately no potatoes with it. My husband got pretty much the same thing except he had French toast and his had potatoes but no? Toast… Either way too much for too little.
This place is an oasis in the city! Prices are extremely reasonable and food is very good. I got a good size bacon breakfast burrito for under $8! Just in the 10 minutes I was inside it's clear there are many regulars as the cashier would call out and verify their order when they walked in, without the customers even saying anything. He knew what they wanted as soon as they walked in.
