Small Format

335 Wickenden St, Providence, RI

Crema's Take

This intimate Providence gem packs creative energy into a deliberately small space, where thoughtfully crafted drinks like their savory "Garlic Not a Vampire" creation share the menu with stellar breakfast sandwiches and cinnamon rolls that draw loyal crowds. The tight quarters mean you're sitting elbow-to-elbow with neighbors, but the genuinely friendly staff and inclusive approach to dietary needs (vegan, gluten-free options abound) make it feel like a gathering place rather than a squeeze. If you're willing to embrace the coziness and skip the search for a restroom, Small Format delivers the kind of specialty coffee and food experience that has people driving across Rhode Island just to land a seat.

Only 4 stars for atmosphere bc it's a small space inside and there's no public restroom. However, I believe it's well worth it bc Small Format promotes safety while serving their community the best food and drink around. The service is always welcoming and friendly. I feel nurtured in this space they have created!

I love the use of the pink triangle. The food and drinks are delicious and creative! I got the garlic not a vampire one, and it was oilier than I would have liked but very tasty. The service is super friendly, and it felt very welcoming. The wait wasn’t long either, in spite of it bustling. There is parking out front too which is great, and one handicap spot directly across the street! While there is a step to get in, the door is not heavy and the entry is wide. Also, there is outdoor seating if you’d prefer or can’t navigate the step.

Staff was super friendly. The breakfast sandwhich was great! I wasn’t a fan of the matcha. It kind of tasted like it had absorbed the flavor of savory items it was near.

Hey bestie- You have tried EVERY PLACE in Providence but this one….but we can fix this. The reason this is worth the visit if you are anywhere within driving distance to Providence is really hard to explain but I will try. Full disclosure I am personally connected with this place and love it. This is a third space design that works for so many reasons: LGBTQIA+ owned and focused space Cooperative worker owned Bipoc leadership Community focused Incredible unique flavors and menu Incredible vibes Small in a welcome home kind of way Great free programming including book club and knitting circle If you go here and support it however you can. Buy art, food, drinks, and chill for the day. They are not open tues/wed so beware. So much more to say but it would be better to learn for yourself. Great if you like gluten free treats or fancy syrups made from real fruit like the Peach Cobbler Matcha or other seasonal treats. Hope you enjoy!

Cute little place! We came on a weekday afternoon and we were able to sit anywhere but the seats filled up quickly after we sat. They had a lot of options for vegan and gluten free etc cinnamon roll was with cream cheese frosting and London fogs are what we ordered.
