Barriques Coffee - Old Sauk
8410 Old Sauk Rd, Middleton, WI
Crema's Take
“Barriques Coffee on Old Sauk is a genuine neighborhood spot where thoughtful baristas (who'll happily dig into ingredient binders for folks with dietary concerns) pair espresso-focused drinks and creative pour overs with substantial breakfasts and lunch sandwiches that won't break the bank. The cozy cafe atmosphere draws families and folks settling in for a slow sit, whether you're ordering a traditional cappuccino or exploring their specialty drinks alongside standouts like their Pesto Grilled Cheese or the surprisingly hearty Kegonsa bowl. With consistently good pastries, reasonable prices, and genuine care in the details, it's the kind of place that feels like a natural gathering spot rather than a destination cafe.”

Great prices! You can get a delicious breakfast for way less than you’d pay at a greasy diner. I have food sensitivities and when I asked the barista what was in the quiche, she pulled out a binder with all the ingredients for every item they sell!! It was such a relief to know I could eat my food without worrying I’d have a reaction (unlike a diner). At first, I gave them 5 stars, but after going into the bathroom I had to downgrade them. The whole room was filthy. The walls were dirty, the art was covered in dust and grime, the toilet didn’t flush right, the faucet was disgusting, and the door was not only badly rusted, but covered in dirty fingerprints. Even the mirror was cloudy with old grime!
This is a great place to get a fantastic cup of java, or other specialty coffee. Pastries are good, and the lunch items are tasty as well. You can't go wrong with the Pesto Grilled Cheese Sandwich. And the Mexican Mocha is delicious. The store manager was there on this day, and she was very kind and informative. (She heard the call that I had to scoot, and surprised me by giving me a "to go" cup for my remaning coffee drink - super cool.) Multiple locations in the Madison area. And they also move/sell quite a bit of wine. So you can get some bagged coffee and bottled wine in one shot!
I went in and ordered two breakfast sandwiches and some coffee. I was excited because I was the only one there at the time- thought I would be in and out. I waited 10 minutes. I finally went to the counter to ask when my items would be ready. Nobody could find my order. I had to get to work so they took my name and number down so that management could provide me with a refund. That was two weeks ago and I have yet to get a phone call from anyone and I have no refund.
Delicious pickin's for breakfast, brunch or lunch! 💯 Had The Kegonsa bowl (served hot) with The Green Monkey smoothie. The bowl was so good I didn't even need dressing. It was also surprisingly large. I had to force eat the last few fork fulls of it because I was full, but didn't want to waste what was left. (This was post-workout too!)The smoothie hit the spot. Its flavor was very sweet & distinct. Not quite apple, but not overwhelmed by the banana or spinach either which was refreshing for a smoothie with those ingredients. Calm atmosphere. Was busy with a long line, but still relaxing place with atmospheric music playing in the background. Friendly & efficient staff. One of my favorite stops in Madison. 💚 (High recommendation for Vegetarian food in Madison)
Large and tasty sandwiches with nicely toasted sourdough. The coffee drinks were also good. Reasonably priced and has a cozy cafe vibe. Recommended for brunch!
