Crema's Take

Olmo is a beloved bagel destination at the edge of Yale where the lines are long for good reason—their inventive creations like the okonomiyaki-filled everything everything bagel are genuinely life-changing, with a chewy-crispy texture that justifies the hype. The tiny shop has perfected their system with kiosk ordering and outdoor waiting, and the energy inside (think staff dancing behind the counter) matches the excellence of their bagels and thoughtfully crafted cream cheese varieties. Whether you're grabbing a classic or diving into their specialty sandwiches, this is exactly the kind of neighborhood gem that becomes a must-visit ritual.

Olmo Bagels at the edge of Yale University is an absolute must-visit for breakfast, boasting a culinary experience that justifies any queue! What started as a casual observation of a massive line on a bike ride quickly turned into a delicious discovery. We indulged in their breakfast bagels, and my salmon smoked bagel was nothing short of amazing—truly a 10/10 for food quality that will leave your taste buds singing. Nestled in a neighborhood rich with history, the building itself, like many along this historic stretch of Chapel Street dating back to the 18th century, hums with the legacy of New Haven's development alongside Yale. Despite a challenging parking situation and a 30-minute wait, the exceptional service received was also a perfect 10/10, making the experience seamless and incredibly welcoming. Be prepared to navigate difficult parking, but the staff's efficiency and warmth more than compensate. It's also worth noting for planning purposes that Olmo Bagels is not particularly geared towards children, with no highchairs available. This gem offers an incredible atmosphere (8/10) perfect for adults looking to savor a truly outstanding bagel. I will be back!

The reviews are right, this place is amazing! I ordered the “everything everything”bagel with the okonomiyaki filling. Megan was behind the counter, dancing (discreetly) to some hip hop and clearly just bringing a lot of positive energy. When she heard it was my first time at Olmo’s, she slipped in the most incredible chocolate chip and sea salt cookie, at no extra charge. What a great experience, I wish I lived in New Haven so I could become a regular! Please note that it’s just a takeout place, although there is some outdoor seating which could be nice in warm weather.

To put it simply, Olmo has the greatest bagels of all time. Chewy, crispy, unique, flavorful, life changing. My go to the is okonomiyaki on the everything EVERYTHING bagel. You will not find this anywhere else and it’s to die for. There’s vegan cream cheese that my vegan girls say is “the best they’ve ever had.” Every time I come here there’s something new and fun to try. The cherry on top is the smooth, never bitter coffee. Oooo and you have to try the latkes and babka! Fair warning though… no other bagel will ever compare again. I cannot eat bagels from anywhere else. It is always a disappointment. I think about you every night Olmo… I hope you think about me too…

This place definitely lives up to the bagel hype, whether you’re getting a classic bagel with cream cheese or a full breakfast sandwich, you really can’t go wrong. The different breads and cream cheese are all delicious. I was super impressed on my first visit, and it’s a spot I always want to come back to. The staff is kind and welcoming, and the space is adorable, perfect for sitting outside or check out the cool vibe inside.

This seems to be a quite famous spot amongst the students. The shop is quite small and busy, so they have a system where you walk in to order from the kiosks but wait outside. Bagels were fantastic. They have some interesting specialty cream cheeses, like the elote one I tried. It had a unique tang unlike any other cream cheese I've had. All around great bagels. Service time is upwards of 15 minutes.
