Crema's Take
“I appreciate you sharing this, but I notice the reviews provided appear to be about Evergreen State College rather than the Batdorf and Bronson coffee shop location itself. To write an accurate and specific summary for Crema, I'd need actual customer reviews about the coffee shop's drinks, atmosphere, and service. Could you provide reviews that specifically discuss the café experience at this location—things like the quality of their espresso, pour over technique, the vibe for working, or what makes it stand out among Olympia's coffee spots?”

I went here straight out of high school for two years in the early 90s. With the except of a few good friendships I had during that time, the academic rigor and intellectually honesty was anything but. My first year "core program" was an absolute disaster of pseudo-intellectual nonsense. I learned absolutely nothing. My second year started with promise, as the year-long program was focused on 19th century Russian, English, and American literature. But that, too, turned into a bust. Both professors were your stereotypical arrogant know-it-alls who picked their favorites and shut down any meaningful discussion on viewpoints that they did not agree with. (So much for intellectually curiosity and tolerance.) Halfway through that second tedious year, I made the decision to transfer to a much higher-rated four year university. And I never regretted that decision. Evergreen only continues to survive because it has fed a college-to-Capital pipeline to ensure that Washington State taxpayers continue to fund it. Otherwise, it would have closed down years ago. If you are looking for actual intellectual growth, go elsewhere. You will not find it here.
I know this place has a bad rep, but I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. As a 33 year old vet who has already obtained a degree in exercise science earlier in my 20’s, this is what I wish my college experience was like. The instructors are AMAZING, the campus is BEAUTIFUL, and every student I met has been a person I was happy to cross paths with. If you’re a neuro divergent learner like myself, and someone who doesn’t like traditional learning, this is for you. Do yourself a favor, at least do a tour. The rest will probably take care of itself.
My daughter transfered here and it has been nothing but a nightmare 1.5 years so far. They will not help with filling out financial forms. They will not let her use her scholarships even when the organization is willing to send them money. You will likely get taken advantage of, will be having her transfer to another college so she can access her scholarships.
In my opinion this school is better for non-traditional students who already know what they want but now more than ever traditional students ( starting right after high school) are very hungry for a sure thing and a path. At Evergreen you make your own path and if that sounds unappealing, you may want to consider if the benefits of adaptability and independence are your priority over getting job training. Evergreen will teach you how to think critically, be adaptable and use interdisciplinary techniques to both help you learn the programs and also help you be a lifelong learner. Adaptability is a necessary skill in an increasingly dynamic (unstable) economy. It's also an extremely competitively-priced school. You just have to do the work.
Disabled visitor ticketed after 25 minutes – pure extortion I’m disabled, have valid state handicap plates/placard, and parked in a marked accessible spot to support a student small-business event I was invited to. I was there less than 30 minutes. Came back to a $25 ticket. Apparently handicap privileges mean nothing here – you still have to buy a permit AND pay the meter. I’ve parked on campuses all over Washington and the country and have never been hit with this garbage. This is predatory, greedy nonsense aimed at guests who came to support your students. My family and I are now permanently done with this school. Zero stars. Shame on you.
