Crema's Take

Café em Hartford is a vibrant Brazilian spot where serious espresso drinks meet authentic pastéis and surprisingly accomplished savory dishes like beef stroganoff that elevate it beyond typical café fare. The tight quarters buzz with energy and the front-of-house staff genuinely care, though you'll want to arrive with patience for crowds and perhaps manage expectations around consistency given the mixed hygiene concerns in recent reviews. If you can catch them on a good day, their coffee rivals specialty shops while their homemade Portuguese cheese balls and açaí bowls offer a refreshing break from the American coffee shop template.

Food hygiene is non-negotiable. Finding a cockroach in the bread dough was beyond nasty. I’m never coming back here. This is straight-up disrespectful to customers. Even if they had given me the bread for free, it wouldn’t change a thing. I came to buy bread, not a cockroach. How does this even happen? Who do you think your customers are? Does the manager not check the employees’ work? Do the employees not even have basic hygiene training? And the owner do they not care about their own business? Where’s the basic respect for the customer?

They have the best coffee, puts Starbucks to shame. Idk what these are called in Portuguese but they’re some sort of cheese balls that I tried and they were amazing, I bought 20 more to take home. They reminded me of pan de yuca from Ecuador. The girls spoke Portuguese and I spoke Spanish but we understood each other, they were so nice! Went there for first time but 10/10 will return.

Very small place. The ladies up front are very friendly, and the food is amazing the pasteis were top notch !!!. Note that this is a very busy spot, and you get a lot of crazy people arguing and fighting outside the restaurant. That kind of ruined the experience for me.

This place has excellent food, not just baked goods. The beef stroganoff, rice and beans, and steak were all amazing. My wife and I were looking for a place while we were visiting the Brazilian consulate, we stopped by two places before this one and we made the right choice! This is the most authentic and delicious food we’ve had since São Paulo. We will be back!
