Golden Waffles
601 S Tryon St, Charlotte, NC
Crema's Take
“Golden Waffles is a bustling Charlotte spot where the aroma of fresh waffles hits you the moment you walk in, drawing a steady stream of regulars who come for their signature creations like the peaches and cream waffle and hot chicken and waffle. The laid-back vibe works equally well for a quick grab or a lingering sit, with both cozy indoor seating and a welcoming outdoor patio that makes it easy to settle in for a bit. While the kitchen can get stretched thin during busy times, the quality of their comfort food—crispy fries, tender chicken biscuits, and those perfectly sweet waffles—keeps people coming back.”

Not enough staff. Food just ok. I visited on a Friday morning around 10:40am. The restaurant was about half full and there were people sitting inside and on the outside patio. There were a lot of empty tables that were covered in empty dishes and needed to be bussed. That being said, after the group on front of me had their orders taken at the counter, the cashier left for 10 minutes to go bus all the dirty tables. The line of customers grew longer and longer while this one cashier cleaned the entire restaurant, inside tables and patio tables. I did see another worker who came out and prepared a couple of alcoholic beverages and then went back to the back. I also saw a couple of BOH cooks who came out briefly. They definitely needed another staff member to bus tables instead of making the cashier do everything. When I finally got my food delivered to me I was disappointed that they served my eggs with a broken yolk. The biscuit was huge (it’s hard to tell from the pic) and could be shared by 2-3 people. The food tasted fine but just average. The people at the table next to me complained very loudly that their waffles were soggy and undercooked. There is street parking as well as a small parking lot and the end of the building.
the burger was soooo good. i wish my waffle buns had been done just slightly more so they wouldn't have been floppy, but it was fine!! the fries are pretty good. the inside was very cute. parking was very hard to find so sadly my food was a bit cold when i went to pick it up (not their fault at all, im just not familiar with the area 😅)
It doesn’t look like much from the outside but when walking in, there is a sweet smell of waffle, a hustle and bustle business with a steady flow of customers! The line moved fast but as much as I thought this was a hidden gem, it didn’t feel so hidden after all! The waffle was purely perfection! I could have had 3 more! The crab cake grits bowl was delicious. Don’t sleep on the Wafflery on the edge of Belmont neighborhood and Plaza midwood!
Absolutely delicious! We got the chicken biscuit, it was wonderful. The peaches and cream waffle was fantastic, so was the hot chicken and waffle and the Pappys Breakfast. Yummy food all around, portions were perfect! Only thing is- it’s so good there was a bit of a line but the service was great. On a cold day, everyone wants to sit inside so it’s a tiny bit of a squeeze for the line. Other than that, would definitely come back!
We ate at this place for the first time, and it was such a great experience! The atmosphere is laid back, and they have both indoor and outdoor seating, which is really nice. I had the Mark’s Womlette, and my waffle had pecans in it — it was delicious! The chicken and red velvet waffles were amazing too. The chicken was a boneless, skinless thigh, perfectly seasoned and fried just right. I’ll definitely be going back to try a few more items on the menu!
