Poindexter Coffee

133 Evergreen Ave, East Lansing, MI

Crema's Take

Tucked inside the charming Graduate Hotel, Poindexter serves bright, cedary espresso with a warm caramel-molasses body on a beautiful La Marzocco machine, all while channeling 1920s retro vibes that feel upscale yet inviting. The diverse seating—from bar stools to high-back chairs and couches—makes it equally perfect for an MSU student cramming between classes or friends lingering over genuinely excellent coffee and pastries. Baristas here actually seem to care, and that warmth paired with the hotel's sophisticated-but-not-stuffy atmosphere creates a rare coffee shop experience that hits the sweet spot between special and comfortable.

This is a wonderful place to meet with friends or study if you are an MSU student. The coffee and food are always good, and the baristas are so nice! Definitely make a stop here if you are in downtown East Lansing.

What a lovely visit! The atmosphere is very inviting. The many seating choices makes a morning wanderer wander no more. Bar stools, tables, cozy high back chairs, couches, they have options! I had a nitro alongside my books and journal. A few minutes later, a barista comes over with a new nitro & tells me they realized the one I had may have been flat. (They realized it moments later.) That is amazing customer service! Divinity was the cashier and one that offered me a new one. She was great from beginning to end, even mentioning that they make their own brown sugar syrup! It’s pleasant starting your day with yummy coffee paired with a smiling face and such a feel good bonus that she cared that I had the nitro at its best. I walked blocks on a chilly morning for this with zero regrets. THANK YOU :)

This coffee shop is inside of a nice hotel. Therefore, the atmosphere is high end for a hotel lobby, but not cozy like some other coffee shops. Nevertheless, this shop serves some amazing coffee! I personally enjoyed the whole experience. I am surprised they don't have more rave reviews.

Adorable retro coffee shop inside of the Graduate Hotel! Definitely worth a stop if you’re staying here, and even if you’re not! The cappuccino was delicious. Make sure you ask for a cup for “here,” or else you’ll get a plastic to-go cup.

cool shop ! • espresso : bright and cedary with a warm caramel molasses body and a light delicious floral finish • @lamarzocco espresso machine • interior : unique and intrinsicly incorporated 1920s style integrated with a modern twist. Dark green meets a rich, dark natural wood hue and is stitched together with tasteful gold accents impresive attention to texture and beautiful white marble • outlets easily accesible for each seating space • ample seating, a generally open floor plan and large ceiling height windows allow for the space to flow organically and appear even larger than it is • exceptional service, extremely welcoming and accomodating--would highly recommend • absolutely love this shop; creates a beuatiful meeting space with an emphasis on community and care
