Crema's Take

This Canal Street institution captures pure New Orleans joy with its lively atmosphere, live piano music, and that perfect blend of comfort that makes strangers feel like locals. The beignets are the real star—freshly made, generously portioned, and worth arriving early for—paired with thoughtfully made coffee at a counter service setup that keeps things casual and welcoming. The corner location's outdoor seating and late hours (open until midnight) make it ideal for lingering over pastries whether you're celebrating a milestone or just soaking in the city's unhurried spirit.

Connected to Sheraton hotel on Canal Street, this cafe was open till midnight, had lovely lively music, and just the most amazing vibe of friendliness, comfort, and joy. Everything that New Orleans can offer under one roof. Family friendly, brightly lit, great food, even greater service! Loved hanging out here during my recent work trip.

If you’re deciding between the two locations, the corner location is the one to visit. I’ve been to both, and although they’re only about a block apart, the difference in experience is noticeable. The main location at the end of the block is much larger, offers more menu options, and the employees there are significantly friendlier. The smaller location in the middle of the block feels more limited, and the staff came across as unapproachable and unwelcoming. The beignets are exactly what you’d expect from this Cafe —freshly fried dough covered in powdered sugar or other toppings. They come out warm and greasy, and they’re nothing like a donut, so don’t expect the same texture. If you’ve never had beignets before, they’re definitely worth trying at least once. The catfish and fries were decent, nothing particularly memorable but still satisfying. One thing I found strange was their merchandise—none of it had pricing displayed, and when I asked employees, they didn’t seem to know the cost. That’s a confusing and frustrating business practice. I also ordered a latte at the smaller location, and it tasted like hot water—very disappointing. Overall, I highly recommend going to the main corner location. The customer service is better, the menu has more variety, and the overall experience is much more enjoyable.

I wanted to try the beignets since a coworker recommended them. They were a great price for three large freshly made beignets. We went around 7:45 am. It wasn’t too busy yet. There was a piano playing by itself and you could tell that they had a space for live music. My husband got a mocha and it was hot. They had a counter with condiments and other add-ons. My husband added half and half and some sugar and he was happy with his drink. My beignets arrived fairly quickly. They were slightly steaming. The dough had an amazing flavor and the powder sugar complimented it well. I would have preferred it be lighter on the powder sugar, but it still wasn’t too sweet. The interior was pleasing to the eye though some of the chairs didn’t look very comfortable. Staff was professional. We noticed canal street has two locations a couple blocks apart. By 10 o‘clock, the cafe was packed so we recommend trying to beat the crowd.

We came here in August for our Daughter's 21st birthday. The Beignets were definitely worth trying. They were a treat. We tried the OG, chocolate, caramel pecan Beignets. Each one was very tasty. The ambiance of the place was nice. Open air concept, not too crowded, cool enough to enjoy sitting outside on hot day.

We took a short walk from our hotel over to Café Beignet on Canal Street. It’s a cool setup with plenty of outdoor seating. Once inside, we ordered our coffee at one end of the counter. Wifey and I opted for a couple of Cafe Mochas. Wifey got hers with whipped cream, and I went without. Then we headed to the other end to place an order for our beignets topped with pecans. They handed us a tabletop number and told us they’d bring the fresh beignets out to our table. The space was surprisingly large for a coffee shop, with multiple TVs showing the football games and even a small live band playing. It was super clean and had a nice energy overall. The beignets took a little while to come out, but that made sense since they were made fresh to order. When they arrived, they were steaming hot and very fresh. The lady who took our order and the guy who brought out the beignets were not very  personable, but that didn’t take away from the overall experience.  We loved the place, and both the coffee and beignets were excellent!
