Cafe de Miro
435 Ionia Ave SW, Grand Rapids, MI
Crema's Take
“Nestled in Grand Rapids' downtown market, this intimate café wins hearts through genuinely personable service and unexpectedly elevated pasta dishes—their three-cheese fettuccine finished tableside in a giant cheese wheel has earned devoted repeat visitors. The owner's hands-on approach to helping guests choose their order sets a welcoming tone that encourages lingering conversations over quality coffee and fresh pastries, though pricing leans toward the premium side and service can be uneven depending on who's behind the counter.”

This place was really awesome, the owner provided me help deciding what I wanted and even let me try some of the food! He was a very lovely guy, and the food was delicious
I have been to several of the spots in the downtown market, and this has been by far the worst. $35+ in total (no tip) for a fettuccine with chicken and a beef gyro. This pasta was annihilated, the “Rosa” sauce was mid at best. The gyro was a big disappointment as I have a great gyro spot in Kzoo, and for 50% more this gyro was plain old bad. Lots of meat, sure… but very little fresh lettuce, no sauce of any kind, and I had a few super crunchy bits of carbon that was literally like biting down on a small rock. I’m guessing this is either scraped off of a dirty griddle or a pan that has too much buildup on it and has flaked off. I’m not sure the service was average for a Saturday or not, but several customers were waiting for a while and looked agitated. Not sure why I didn’t follow my gut, the guy running the register couldn’t have seemed any less interested in taking our order. Overall, I hope this was just a bad experience and not the standard. With all of the other spots here, I would think the benchmark would be high!
The three cheese fettuccine Alfredo with chicken was out of this world, they actually put it in a giant cheese wheel! the panini was really good too. We will be back!
I can’t begin to tell you how impressed how I was with my experience here. The young man making my pasta was so sweet and polite, I wished I would have actually tipped him more. But then the food was amazing! I can honestly say that this was by far, the BEST fettuccine and Alfredo I have ever had! Maybe it was the fresh made pasta, the Parmesan wheel or just your personal talents, either way, you guys clearly know what you’re doing!
I'm gonna start off by saying the service was slow and the old guy behind the counter with the white beard needs a lesson on customer service and friendliness. Having said that the ham and fontina panini was pretty dang good! I would reluctantly come back lol
