Simple Local Coffee
115 SW Ash St, Portland, OR
Crema's Take
“This beloved Southwest Portland spot has carved out a genuine neighborhood gathering place with its warm, spacious interior and consistently excellent espresso drinks that locals can't stop raving about. Beyond solid coffee fundamentals, they've earned a devoted following for unexpected specialties like their standout matcha tea and genuinely exceptional hot chocolate that regulars describe as some of the best they've had. The combination of a friendly owner, quick baristas, and beautiful pastries (especially those scones) makes it feel less like a caffeine transaction and more like visiting a friend who happens to make really good drinks.”

A lovely café with a warm atmosphere and friendly service. They made a really good cappuccino and served it with a delicious cake. I really enjoyed my visit!
My favorite in this part of Portland, sitting in a beautiful building nearby the fire department. Friendly owner, the scones are delicious and quality is way more consistent and better than many in town. Hope the open hours could be longer.
Nice, cute coffee shop in the SW Ash Street (between 1st and 2nd Ave). Lot of space to sit and relax, have a conversation 😊 Definitely another good place in Downtown Portland. Wish it was open during the weekend
This is a great coffee place near my work. The barista here is super friendly and quick with the drinks. I really enjoyed my iced matcha tea. They have a common area that you can sit and have a conversation at. This will be my go-to spot by work for future coffee meetings.
Friendly service. Absolutely amazing hot chocolate. Each coffee shop has a different tasting hot chocolate, and this one was among the best I've ever had! Aesthetically speaking, a coffee shop cannot look better than this one. The colors, the materials used in the interior, the building that it is located and the part of old town. Truly a beautiful experience just sitting down inside the cafe. The music was nice when I went in, it was like vintage blues and front-porch guitar blues. Each song had its own unique and old texture. It wasn't too loud, but was not quiet either. I would recommend visiting this place on your tour through Portland's unique cafes. Oh try the pastries too!
