Ellwood Thompson's

Crema's Take
“This Richmond institution is a beautiful blend of organic market and casual café where you can grab a coffee while browsing an impressive selection of local and natural products. The warm, community-focused atmosphere makes it perfect for a quick meeting or lingering over a drink, though reviews suggest the coffee drinks themselves are hit-or-miss—so come for the vibrant organic grocery selection and welcoming vibe more than the espresso. It's genuinely family-friendly and offers something distinctive for Richmond: a true gathering space that prioritizes health-conscious, locally-sourced options.”

If the goal was to create a $12 cup of lightly flavored ice water, mission accomplished. Unfortunately, I ordered a smoothie. It tasted like watered-down ice with the faintest hint of fruit — no thickness, no creaminess, no real flavor. Just a cold cup of disappointment. For a store that prides itself on quality ingredients, this completely missed the mark. Really disappointing.
Great store but I had an absolutely HORRIBLE experience with an employee Kris. I was trying to return my bananas and they were extremely rude to me and my two young children and belittled me and were very sarcastic and unhelpful. Can’t believe this type of customer service is acceptable at an upscale establishment such as this which is supposed welcoming towards all. Will be shopping elsewhere from now on if this is how the employees are allowed treat customers. Please do something about this this type of behavior is ENTIRELY unacceptable!
Wonderful array of health, food, vegan vegetarian and gluten-free food. All kinds of food, canned and box otherwise that you can take home and cook very impressive and also fresh vegetables and fruit! Great place for people interested in protecting their health
Wow. This is a really nice organic market. Lots of familiar products and stuff that I haven't seen before. Unfortunately we didn't have the time to do a full grocery run here to see what the cost was. Just wandered the aisles and checked out their offerings. A few things offered in this store that I thought were special. Bulk foods, bulk teas & coffee. Lots of soap options, a grand beer and wine selection and a coffee stand.
Today I stepped into this store after being away since the start of the pandemic. The certified organic selection here is wonderful! Ellwood Thompson's offers a very community-oriented environment and is very supportive of locally grown produce and other local items. More dollars generated at this locally-owned store also appear to stay in the community than probably at most corporate chain stores. Also, I see the owner eating regularly at the store's cafe, and is very customer service oriented himself.
