Hidden Grounds Chai & Coffee House

700 Garden St, Hoboken, NJ

★★★★★4.5(262 Google reviews)

Crema's Take

Hidden Grounds is a charming hole-in-the-wall where creative drinks like Taro and Honey Lavender lattes share equal billing with thoughtfully prepared food, from salmon avocado toast to perfectly executed bagels. The intimate space—sparse indoors but welcoming at the front tables—cultivates that coveted slow-cafe energy where you actually want to linger, and the playful details (like the miniature cafe on the shelf) hint at owners who genuinely care about the experience. Whether you're stopping in for a signature specialty drink or settling in for a meet-up with friends, this Hoboken spot delivers genuinely good vibes and flavors worth the seek.

Quaint, modern hole-in-the-wall cafe with limited indoor seating, and a few tables out front. I liked the miniature version of the cafe on the shelf next to the banner teaching you what "Aiyo" means.

I have made reviews on Hidden Grounds before and have said wonderful things, however, I ordered a cold brew on Uber Eats this morning and the coffee wasn’t nearly full. I attached photos to show I did not drink any of it. Pretty disappointed considering this was $7.70 online (~6$ in store).

Randomly stopped by the morning of Mon, Sept 8, 2025… the food was pretty great, I got the Salmon avocado toast, Chicken Tikka sandwich, Taro Latte, and Honey Lavender Latte. I would actually recommend all of them - the chicken sandwich is a bit spicy, so be careful, I recommend having it for lunch rather than breakfast like I did :) The only thing preventing me from giving it 5 stars is the woman (with glasses and darker hair) who was taking my order - she really seemed like she didn’t want to be there. I’ve worked at cafes before, so I get that you might not get great service all the time, but she didn’t smile once, didn’t say hi, nor did she say thank you. That was a bit of a downer Otherwise, I would recommend!

A really nice café, with lots of options to choose from. I had my first bagel with cream cheese and salmon of this trip here, so maybe that’s why I remember it so fondly – but it really was very good. I also tried a pistachio and cardamom bun – also delicious. A small and cozy little spot. It was great!

Great drinks, delicious food, good vibes Was tempted by the sweets but went with the salmon bagel instead, delicious choice! The seating is cute and cozy, the drinks are unique, especially if you’re looking for some chai
