Recess Coffee House & Roastery
110 Harvard Pl, Syracuse, NY
Crema's Take
“Recess is a beloved neighborhood roastery in Syracuse's Westcott area that draws crowds for its thoughtfully crafted espresso drinks and creative signatures like their standout banana toffee creation. The space has a charming small-town aesthetic that keeps locals coming back, though the popularity means you'll want to arrive with patience for a wait. Baristas here are genuinely helpful and attentive, making it a perfect spot to linger over a pour over or specialty drink in a welcoming, community-focused setting.”

One of my favorite coffee spots to take a walk to a little ways off SU campus and explore the Westcott area. I've always had good experiences here; baristas have always been helpful and nice. It can get busy, with limited seating inside. The tables outside are great when the weather is nice (would recommend if you have a larger group). As a heads up, food (i.e., sandwiches) do take a little longer to get at the counter than drinks. Like their mocha and lattes!
Wish I could rate this neighborhood coffee shop more highly. My cappuccino was scalding, and I burned my mouth and had to wait about 15 mins for it to be cool enough to drink. My husband's peanut butter latte was undrinkable, with the flavors way too strong. Maybe it was just an inexperienced staff member on duty? But we left quite disappointed.
One of the best coffee places I've gone to! The banana toffee was an absolute delight, wonderful flavour of banana throughout. 🍌 Will definately return, 10/10 establishment! They also have cute displays for local artists and some seating area although dimly lit and not very conducive for studying
Very busy business so plan on waiting. The drinks are very good but the bagel breakfast sandwiches need better bagels. The bagels are out of a bag and weren't toasted. Tasted like eating a Lenders bagel but I know it isn't, supposed to be Cassanovia. Parking can be difficult. If you do like coffee you won't be disappointed in their drinks.
This spot is a locals favourite and came highly recommended. I’d give them a five for aesthetics. The small-town feel was pleasing to the eyes. However they had limited decaffeinated coffee options so I couldn’t grab a drink. The cookies smelled and tasted good. I’d recommend an early morning hop in
