Not Just Coffee - Atherton Mill
2000 South Blvd, Charlotte, NC
Crema's Take
“Tucked into the Atherton Mill complex, this spot nails the bright, airy aesthetic that makes you want to linger for hours with your laptop or a friend. While the cold brew and espresso drinks earn genuine praise for their smoothness and balance, the experience hinges entirely on which barista is behind the counter—some visits feel genuinely warm and welcoming, while others leave you wishing you'd gone elsewhere. If you catch them on a good day, the pastries and light food pair perfectly with their thoughtful coffee, and the location gives you the bonus of exploring the mill's shops afterward.”

Barista kinda gave me weird vibes and wasn’t very nice.. and the coffee just wasn’t good. Way better coffee out there and the place is kinda small
I stopped here on a slow Saturday morning, and it immediately felt like one of those places you want to keep to yourself. The space is bright and airy, with just the right amount of background buzz. My latte was smooth and balanced, not overly sweet, and the pastry I picked up was fresh and flaky. The staff was friendly without being overbearing, which I really appreciated. I ended up staying longer than planned, just enjoying the relaxed atmosphere.
All of these comments about the baristas not having a welcoming attitude are sadly very true. You’d think being a local spot they’d care about fostering a welcoming environment but the handful of times I’ve gone they don’t greet you and when you order they genuinely seem annoyed and/or angry that you’ve bothered them. Like someone else mentioned, you chose the job. NJC Atherton has potential but only if the owners start holding their employees to a standard that makes people happy and comfortable to spend their money there.
first time here — and honestly, it’s really not just coffee. the cold brew was smooth and perfectly balanced, the biscuit was melt-in-your-mouth good. cozy spot, good energy — I’ll be back for sure
Love this place! They have great coffee and food. You can also shop around at Atherton mill afterward! It’s definitely the ideal place to do work or to have a coffee chat. It feels super open with the windows above and has a rustic feel due to the mill background. Would definitely recommend the yogurt or the matchas!
