Summer Thyme Café

Crema's Take
“This welcoming neighborhood spot in Portage excels at creating a cozy, inviting atmosphere where families, business groups, and solo diners all feel equally at home, with genuinely friendly staff who seem to genuinely enjoy making guests comfortable. While the food is solidly homestyle—think pot roast dinners and French dips—it's really the warm vibe, thoughtful kids' options, and intimate booth seating that keep people coming back for both quick lunches and lingering conversations. It's the kind of place where you can tell new ownership cares about hospitality just as much as the menu.”

Took my three year old here for a lunch date. Great kids options and quick service. Staff was so friendly and welcoming, especially to my daughter, and the food was great! We will definitely be back.
The staff was friendly enough and the inside of the building is inviting. The food was pretty good as well, I ordered the Milwood and the other meal is the French dip sandwich.
Came in here with a bunch of business guests from Stryker, the food was regular and nothing outstanding, in a warm, cozy vibe that we enjoyed. Guess the new ownership has truly affected food. The food still has the good home cooked goodness but lacked flavor. Our server was oddly a little slight. My non-color guests were treated with smiles and courtesy, just plainness for me even though I paid the bill. Guess this place isn’t up to current times yet! The food and service remove one star each in my overall rating.
We stopped at the Summer Thyme Cafe for lunch on our way to Lake Michigan. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting with little booths and tables for dining in. The menu has a great variety of salads and sandwiches, so it was hard to decide what to order! I chose the Chicken Pecan salad, and it was delicious. Everything was so fresh; the serving size was generous but not overwhelming. My husband had the Cobb salad, and it was very good too. Our server was pleasant and attentive. The cafe is conveniently located about 0.5 miles from the highway-easy on/easy off. I would definitely recommend this cute little cafe for lunch and look forward to stopping there again when I'm passing through Kalamazoo. PS-the desserts looked amazing! Fresh pies, cake, bars etc. [We're trying to avoid sweets so we didn't partake-but it was tempting].
I had the pot roast dinner tonight and was not disappointed, in fact, took half of it home. I was too full to have one of their delicious desserts but they were tempting. I substituted my veggie side for their homemade potato salad and brought it home for later as well (I love it). Homemade comfort food dinner specials as well as delicious soups, sandwiches and salads, will have you coming back. Locally owned with owner on site and putting out all this deliciousness daily !
