Crema's Take
“This beloved Chinatown bakery is a treasure trove of Hong Kong-style pastries where every visit feels like discovering something special—their polo bao arrives impossibly crispy and light, egg tarts have that perfect flaky crust and jiggly filling, and regulars swear by the taro cake. The vibe is casual and welcoming, perfect for a quick grab-and-go or lingering with friends over reasonably priced buns and cakes that don't overwhelm with sweetness, making it the kind of neighborhood spot where you'll find yourself returning again and again.”

Their polo bao when fresh is crispy light fluffy and just so delightful. Dan taat thick flaky crust and fresh jiggly eggy filling. Can't ask for more 💛
Lovely bakery. My friend does not like overly sweet cakes, so we went to this bakery. They made a really nice vanilla cake with whipped cream and fresh strawberry filling. The cake was a hit, thanks!
Mayflower was a random stop but looked like a great option for a quick snack. We didn’t have to wait long to order and there are lots of options for buns! We got the pork bun and the almond butter bun, which are priced under $5 each. The pork bun was so delicious and stuffed with meat, and was sweet and savory! I could eat 5 more of those and call it a meal. The almond butter bun is very soft and buttery (makes sense) and better as a dessert rather than a snack. Great spot for a quick and tasty bite!
I’ve gotten the taro cake for my birthday maybe 2 or 3 times now and it’s always delicious. The pork buns and egg tarts are great too when they’re available, and the prices are reasonable all around. I always look forward to stopping by when I’m in the area.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I stopped by Mayflower Bakery & Cafe while I was in Chinatown and I’m so glad I did. The pastry case was packed with options and everything looked super fresh. I grabbed a pineapple bun, a roast pork bun, and a coconut tart, and honestly all three were delicious. The buns were soft and fluffy, the fillings tasted fresh, and the coconut tart was perfectly sweet without being over the top. I also ordered a Vietnamese-style coffee, which was strong and smooth and paired perfectly with the pastries. The place itself is small and simple, but the staff were really friendly and even offered to warm up my pastries, which made them taste even better. Prices are very reasonable, so you can try a bunch of different things without breaking the bank. Overall, it’s the kind of spot I’d happily come back to whenever I’m in the area, tasty food, good coffee, and a welcoming vibe.
