Inquiring Mind Bookstore & Cafe
200 Main St, Kingston, NY
Crema's Take
“This bookstore-cafe hybrid is built for lingering—sprawling reading nooks, a thoughtful mix of new and used books, and a solid decaf program make it the kind of place where you'll lose track of time. The coffee is traditional and reliable rather than flashy, but that's precisely the point: the real draw is settling in with a book, records, or whatever catches your eye while nursing a cup in one of their genuinely comfortable sitting areas. Regulars clearly keep coming back for the welcoming vibe and Julia's friendly service, not for third-wave roasts or latte art.”
What to expect
Classic coffee drinks done right. A slow-sit, laptop-friendly spot, good for meetings. Pastries on the menu. Wifi. Parking available.

I used to genuinely love this bookstore when I first moved to the area. It felt like a cozy, welcoming neighborhood spot, and I often recommended it to guests staying at our Airbnb. Over time, though, it feels like the store has become very ideologically driven. The selection…
Great place to spend your time looking for pretty much any book and have some coffee along the way. Very nice sitting areas :) love this place and always looking forward to coming back here .
My first time at this location! It’s sprawling and has such a good mix of new and used books as well as records, CDs and more. Love that they have separate romance, SFF, and YA sections and a good mix within each. There are also lots of places to curl up with a book or a drink…

I just stopped in for a hot decaf coffee. It's really good. Even perfect, I would say! The service was friendly and quick. Julia is a pleasure to deal with. The baked goods look amazing. I see they sell Boylan sodas, my favorite. I'm glad I stopped by!
